"The appearance in the media to discuss the issues of qualified Saudi youth is a sensitive matter that requires awareness, objectivity, and careful word choice, not provocation or belittling their abilities and competencies." This tweet was written three days ago and was brief according to the requirements and nature of the (X) platform, which does not accommodate lengthy statements. The tweet referred to a verbal slip in a statement made by an official in a relevant human resources entity when she used a description that the public found unacceptable, leading to condemnation and outrage on social media.
Here, I would like to reaffirm the content of that tweet and say: the times have changed, and people are not as they once were. In the past, some officials would say whatever provocative statements and information that contradicted reality, blaming all shortcomings and mistakes on the citizen, accusing them of whatever they pleased, relying on an exaggerated immunity that protected them from being challenged or having their statements refuted, as well as criticism of their manner of addressing citizens. Now, this is no longer the case for many reasons, the most important of which is that transparency, integrity, and accountability pursue any official as a fundamental and established principle of state policy. Therefore, there is no official who is not held accountable by the public for their manner of dealing with them. Additionally, the internet revolution has provided communication platforms that have become available means for everyone to express their opinions, meaning that there is no longer any restriction on criticism as long as it is objective and related to important issues. It is also worth noting that the majority of Saudi citizens now belong to a generation of educated, aware, and conscious young people who understand their rights and duties, a generation that has proven its high competence and ability to win the bet on it in all fields. Thus, addressing them in the media requires a great deal of awareness of all these facts.
Saudi youth face significant challenges in light of the fierce competition they suffer from due to some employers' preference for foreigners for reasons known to everyone, despite the state's considerable efforts in Saudization. However, if those entities are trying to justify their actions by falsely and unjustly questioning the competence of Saudi youth, it is never acceptable for an official to speak to the media in a way that reinforces such accusations against our youth.
Be mindful of your words, some officials; our youth need support, not discouragement.
