Life has returned to schools with the return of students from their summer vacations, a return that will reflect its impact on all aspects of life in the community!
The streets will become more crowded, and there may be less activity in the markets during school days, but homes will remain bustling like a beehive, where parents and children share concerns about motivation and studying, while schools during the daytime will be the most energetic and lively places in the city and village!
I remember when I was in elementary school, we used to be surprised to hear the news bulletin signal at nine o'clock, as it came much earlier than our sacred bedtime, while today's students have all the tools for staying up late in their bedrooms, whether it be mobile phones, smart screens, or video games. The lifeline for all of this is the internet, and if a family head thought about cutting it off at night from family members, data plans would not prevent them from continuing their parallel lives!
Today, parents are experiencing enormous and rapid transformations that require a parallel understanding to keep up with and adapt family relationships; otherwise, those relationships would suffer from deep fractures, widening gaps, and walls of isolation. Schools also need to adapt to the accelerating transformations of generations—with the impact of the development of modern tools and communication—to build a positive relationship that contributes to achieving educational goals!
It is important to recognize the significance of an attractive school environment as the primary motivator for student attendance and reducing absenteeism. Neither threats nor strict penalties will change the reality of absenteeism unless those responsible for education understand: why do some students shy away from school?!
There must be specialized counselors in psychological aspects to care for what may be hidden from parents, administrators, and teachers, and there should be firmness against physical and psychological bullying as it is one of the reasons for aversion and absenteeism. Just as the ministry today requires the professional qualification of teachers, this qualification should include educational and psychological elements to ensure the educational process achieves its goals to the fullest extent, and there must also be firmness in confronting forms of physical and psychological bullying and treating them as one of the causes of aversion to school!
In short.. the school year has begun, and I hope it ends with a real change that makes us feel the development of education!
