The Ministry of Education is at odds with parents over cases of rejection, and this statement has been proven by the reality of many decisions that provoke anger, as these decisions do not take into account their impact on the educational issue. Any decision made requires an understanding of the effect it has on the student or the parent. Many educational decisions are implemented only to be quickly canceled because the decision was not successful. Years pass between the implementation of a decision and its cancellation. This recurring situation has made education fluctuate between failure and the repeated replication of experiments that have not led to a qualitative shift in the educational process. Additionally, this repetition is compounded by the issuance of decisions that do not consider the circumstances of parents, their concerns, and their desire for a smooth education for their children. In this context, I received a message from one of the parents of students complaining about an issue that may disrupt his daughter's educational journey; because the decision did not take this father's circumstances into account. I will convey the message here as it is, and here is its text:
(After the Ministry of Education announced the launch of the national unified admission platform for universities and colleges and scholarship seats to contribute to achieving the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, aimed at improving the student experience and enabling them to make their decisions with confidence, efficiency, and transparency... but the surprise was that the outcome was the opposite. Instead of the admission process being easy for sons and daughters as we have known in previous years, where sorting and lowering acceptance rates occurred easily, allowing some universities to reach a number of (sortings) that could reach 6 or 7, contributing to lowering the specified acceptance rates for students to a larger number according to the university's capabilities, the opposite happened this year. Applicants were forced to enter 25 preferences in order for the student to complete the application, with the condition that the acceptance must be confirmed to benefit from the upgrade in preferences. This made the student register preferences they do not want in places far from their residence just to complete their application, and unfortunately, they are accepted in these preferences with no option to delete them except by contacting the platform. How many students did not receive a response to their requests due to the large number at the national level, which finally led them to activate the deletion feature? As a result, the preferences remained fixed, and the upgrade did not occur due to the stability of the rates, causing harm to students. It would have been better to test the platform in parallel with the specialized programs in universities and benefit from their expertise and methods in handling admissions before launching it and jeopardizing the future of students. How many sons or daughters were accepted outside their region, causing family disruption, and if they wanted to enroll in a private university, we all know the cost they might incur... We await the Minister's intervention to address the situation out of compassion for the students and their parents). This message reflects the suffering of parents of students and their fear of their children's future being lost, which necessitates a review of a decision that could lead to the loss of many students' futures. It needs to be reviewed even if this impact affects just one student. Finally, those who decide must acknowledge the mistakes that are the product of that decision, and it takes courage to cancel or correct any error that occurs during the implementation of the decision. Isn't this reasonable, O Ministry of Education?
