In the humanitarian test of Gaza since its inception, culminating in the horrific disaster currently unfolding, we have confirmed the complete collapse of the moral, principled, and value-based system that cultural, media, and human rights elites in the West claim to uphold. It has become clear that complicity in this crime is no longer solely the concern of political administrations, which fail to name what is happening by its true designation as a systematic genocide and intervene to stop it, but also includes the justifications put forth by some writers, journalists, and intellectuals to refute the accusation of Israeli genocide against a defenseless, displaced people, in the most despicable and vile manner, manifested in the denial of food even to children, women, and the elderly, after the destruction of shelters and hospitals, and cutting off supplies of the simplest and most essential life-saving medications.
Those following American and Western journalism, especially those that call themselves liberal and claim to be biased towards the facts with independence not tied to political agendas, find in some of their reports and articles by their writers what is shameful in its blatant distortion of the reality occurring in Gaza, the barbaric practices of the Israeli Defense Forces, and the reckless policies of Netanyahu's government. There is a consolidation of a specific narrative that seeks to turn the wolf into a lamb, the oppressor into the oppressed, and the criminal into the victim. They want to say that the attack on October 7 by Hamas and the taking of Israeli hostages justifies everything that Israel has done, is doing, and will do, from the destruction of everything on the ground in the entire Gaza Strip, to displacing its people in a harsh journey of wandering, culminating in their extermination through hunger and executions in the queues waiting for the meager aid that Israel allows in drips.
We do not know how these individuals engage in such professional and moral degradation in the face of a horrific humanitarian catastrophe. If they are doing this to align with the agendas of their governments, they undermine their claim of freedom of opinion and expression and the neutrality of media institutions. If these are their independent subjective opinions, the situation is even worse. In both cases, the result is the same: failure in the Gaza test.
