In 2002, UNESCO declared May 21 as World Day for Cultural Diversity, following the destruction of the historic Buddha statues in Afghanistan.

Cultural diversity is considered a driver of development, not only in terms of economic growth but also as a means to live a sound intellectual, emotional, ethical, and spiritual life.

Accepting and recognizing cultural diversity—especially through the innovative use of media and information and communication technologies—can lead to dialogue between civilizations and cultures, as well as mutual respect and understanding.

Generally, when we think of diversity, we think of the most obvious and visible things such as gender, age, race, and factors that are usually easier to discover on the surface about another person.

However, alongside these more obvious factors, there are other less visible factors, such as ethnicity, beliefs, religion, interests, education, skills, language, and disability. To understand these factors, we need to be more aware of culture.

In a world that is becoming increasingly globalized day by day, cultural intelligence has become more important than ever. Cultural intelligence is the understanding that a person's culture encompasses their core values, beliefs, and behaviors, which stem not only from their ethnicity, religion, age, and gender but also from a wide range of life experiences.

Harmonizing with cultural intelligence enables us to communicate with people more effectively by understanding their perspectives. It may seem easy, but achieving it can be challenging.
