The Ministry of Education has approved the return to the two-semester system, but this system returns amid many changes that the educational environment has witnessed in recent years, which raises hope for a more effective and efficient educational performance to achieve the targets!
It is positive that the calendar is issued for the next four years, as this contributes to achieving stability for educational institutions' programs and allows parents to organize their vacations and benefit from them accurately!
Personally, as a parent, I find that the three-semester system has achieved its goals, and the return to the two-semester system comes as part of an educational strategy that is no longer subject to interpretations, but is based on the targets of Saudi Vision. Education is the cornerstone in building the components of this vision and achieving its aspirations!
The three-semester system, with its distributed vacations throughout the academic year, has provided students and educational and administrative staff with a necessary outlet to alleviate the burdens and weight of the academic year, and a source to renew energy and continue fulfilling responsibilities.
While we notice in the new calendar the absence of the term "extended vacations," we find that the distribution of vacations has not overlooked the need for breaks, alleviating pressures, and providing opportunities to catch one’s breath, as the number of school days has not changed (180 days), nor has the number of vacation days!
It is important for all of us - in the ministry, the school, and the home - to recognize that responsibility is collective, and that investing in children is a shared responsibility. To ensure the success of this investment, roles must be integrated and efforts must be combined, acknowledging that the primary responsibility lies with the educational institution, as it has the upper hand in organizing and managing the educational process, while the family’s role is complementary and supportive!
The educational institution must fulfill its promises to reform the school environment, improve its attractiveness, enhance the efficiency of educational staff, and develop curricula and educational tools to ensure the preparation of qualified generations capable of carrying the banner of the future!
