A powerful storm brought heavy rains on Sunday to areas of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah that were still recovering from devastating floods.
Weather experts reported that the strong storm unleashed heavy rainfall across the Southwest, prompting U.S. authorities to issue evacuation orders in some areas and bringing threats of flash flooding through Monday.
The greatest risk was expected across parts of Arizona, southern Utah, southwestern Colorado, and western New Mexico, where much of the region was still recovering from recent devastating floods.
The Weather Prediction Center explained that continued heavy rainfall on land already saturated with water could lead to rapid runoff, increasing the risk of renewed flash flooding, especially in hilly terrain, narrow canyons, waterways, and burn scar areas.
