Frequent gum bleeding during tooth brushing is a sign that deserves attention, as it may indicate inflammation of the tissues surrounding the teeth due to the accumulation of bacterial plaque, especially when accompanied by redness, swelling, or changes in the appearance of the gums.
Estimates from the World Health Organization indicate that oral diseases affect about 3.7 billion people globally, with severe periodontal disease being one of the most widespread health issues, potentially leading to damage to the supporting tissues and bones of the teeth in its advanced stages.
Gingivitis often occurs due to the accumulation of bacteria on the teeth and gum margins, triggering an inflammatory response that makes the tissues more prone to bleeding, especially during brushing or flossing.
Dentists confirm that bleeding may also be associated with other factors, including certain medications, hormonal changes, and specific health disorders, making it essential to identify the cause when it recurs.
Daily dental care, cleaning between the teeth, and regular check-ups with the dentist help reduce plaque accumulation, while persistent bleeding requires specialized examination to prevent the progression of gum problems.
