The French health authorities announced the registration of the first known human case of the "Shamonda" virus in the country, in a patient suffering from severe immunodeficiency, who died in early October in the city of Lyon.
The French Ministry of Health clarified that the infection is considered an exceptional case, suggesting that the virus was transmitted to the patient via mosquitoes in eastern France, where its spread among animals was observed during the spring and summer seasons.
The ministry confirmed that, based on the available data, no risk to public health has been identified, noting that the World Health Organization and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have been informed of the incident.
