The Algerian resident Shifa Nour El-Din Boudaar recounted the terrifying moments she experienced during the attack on Riyadh Airport, after suffering a severe injury to her left leg that required two surgical operations, amid initial fears of the possibility of amputating her foot.
Shifa stated during her talk with Al Arabiya channel that she has been living in the Kingdom for 30 years and resides in Medina. She mentioned that she came to Riyadh for a two-day business trip, and while waiting for her return flight in Terminal 3 of the airport, she was startled by the sound of an explosion and the injury to her legs, before darkness fell and smoke spread throughout the area.
She added, "I tried to stand and turn around, but it was pitch dark, and I saw people on fire and others on the ground unable to get up, amidst screams and horrifying bloody scenes," noting that a person who identified himself as a doctor rushed to help her and bandaged her leg, before two individuals carried her outside and stopped a car from the street to take her to the hospital.
She confirmed that she has not yet recovered from the psychological trauma, saying, "I literally saw death, but thank God, He has granted us life," explaining that doctors estimated upon her arrival at the hospital the possibility of amputating her left foot, but she underwent two surgical operations and is still waiting for a third operation, hoping to regain her ability to move.
Shifa directed sharp criticism towards the Houthi militias, describing the attack as "a heinous and criminal act in every sense of the word," and prayed for God to grant victory to the Kingdom's government over them, denouncing the targeting of innocents, children, and the weak, as well as attempts to target the Sacred House of God, considering it one of the most heinous and atrocious crimes.
For his part, Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Hindi, a consultant in plastic and reconstructive surgery, explained that the injured woman arrived at the hospital suffering from tissue loss and severe damage to her left leg, which included muscles, veins, and arteries, along with a fracture in the bones, which could have led to amputation of the foot.
He indicated that the management of her case was conducted in collaboration between the departments of plastic and reconstructive surgery, orthopedic surgery, and vascular surgery, as the injured woman first underwent a cleaning and exploration operation of the tissues, blood vessels, nerves, and healthy muscles, followed by a reconstruction operation to cover and protect the vital tissues.
He noted that the upcoming operations will aim to complete the coverage of the remaining tissues and clean the tissues that need it, expressing hope that the injured woman will be able to walk again with the help of physical and rehabilitative therapy.
