A dispute between a couple over the safe storage of firearms turned into a murder case in Pennsylvania, USA, after a woman was accused of shooting her husband during an argument about leaving a gun in a place accessible to children.
According to Pennsylvania State Police and court documents, Dawn Marie Freeman (44 years old) was arrested and charged with criminal homicide in the death of her husband, Bradley Freeman (40 years old), along with charges of aggravated assault and endangering another person.
Gun on the Table
The incident occurred on Sunday evening (October 4) inside the couple's home in Adams Township, Cambria County, after the wife returned home and found her husband's 9mm gun on a table in the living room.
The accused stated during the investigation that her husband had been leaving his weapon in unsecured places accessible to children for about two years, and she had repeatedly asked him to put it in a safe place.
According to the probable cause affidavit in the case, the wife confronted her husband about the gun, but he refused to move it, leading to a heated argument between them.
"To Teach Him a Lesson"
Authorities said the wife grabbed the gun, pointed it at her husband, and pulled the trigger, indicating during the investigation that she wanted to teach him a lesson about gun safety.
The bullet struck the husband in the chest, causing him to fall inside the living room, while the accused claimed she screamed and threw the gun away after the shooting.
The couple's son was inside the house at the time of the incident and attempted to perform CPR on his father while his mother called emergency services.
Paramedics arrived at the home, but the husband had already died, with the Cambria County coroner confirming that the death resulted from a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Authorities detained the wife, who appeared in court on Monday morning (October 5), and she was placed in Cambria County Jail without bail, while the charges are still pending in court.
