The State Security and Terrorism Court in Kuwait issued a series of decisive judicial rulings that included five separate cases related to digital activity, aiming to put an end to violations of publishing and circulating clips and statements through media platforms and social media sites.
The prison sentences affected several defendants in cases involving offenses against the dignity of the Emir, as the court sentenced Talal Al-Dabbous to five years in prison with hard labor. Another case on the platform (X) witnessed a notable discrepancy, with the original tweet's author receiving a two-year prison sentence with hard labor, while the user who replied to the same tweet received a harsher penalty of five years in prison.
In the file of rumors and misleading publications, the court issued a ruling led by the judicial panel sentencing both Lulwa Al-Husseinan and Mansour Al-Muharib to five years in prison with hard labor for the crime of disseminating false news, coinciding with the issuance of a unique ruling requiring the execution and permanent deletion of the video clip related to the crime from all digital platforms.
The rulings also included a three-year prison sentence with hard labor for a user convicted of inciting sectarian strife online. Meanwhile, the last case related to media statements concluded with the acquittal of a lawyer and the suspension of his punishment, provided that he submits a financial guarantee of 5,000 dinars to commit to good conduct for two years.
