A dispute between two pilots of Air New Zealand sparked widespread controversy after the incident was linked to a flight delay of over 14 hours for a flight from San Francisco, USA, to Auckland.
The incident occurred while the pilots were off duty during a layover in San Francisco, prompting the company to launch an internal investigation to uncover the details and circumstances surrounding the event.
Flight NZ7, headed to Auckland, was affected as the company had to make changes to the flight crew and provide a replacement pilot before allowing the aircraft to depart.
Replacement Pilot Delays Takeoff
This led to passengers waiting for several hours, as the replacement pilot had to complete the mandatory rest period imposed by aviation safety regulations before starting work and piloting the flight.
After completing the necessary procedures and the required rest period, the flight was able to take off, after a delay of more than 14 hours from its scheduled time.
Investigation into the Circumstances of the Incident
The company confirmed that the incident did not occur on board the aircraft and that it had informed the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority of the details, while investigations are still ongoing to fully understand what happened and determine the actions to be taken against those involved.
