The Egyptian researcher Aya Khalaf Ahmed presented a remarkable example of determination, having completed her master's thesis defense at the Faculty of Education at Ain Shams University while experiencing labor pains, just hours before giving birth to three twins in one day that combined academic achievement with family joy.
Aya attended the defense session (on Saturday morning) despite feeling the pains of childbirth, resorting to mild painkillers to be able to complete the discussion that lasted several hours, ultimately earning her master's degree with honors. As soon as the defense was over, she was immediately transferred to the operating room where she delivered her three babies.
In statements to (Al Arabiya.net), Aya explained that she was aware that carrying multiples made early delivery a real possibility; therefore, she was keen to schedule her defense early to avoid any conflict with the birth circumstances. She added that she woke up on the day of the defense feeling strong pains, but she refused to postpone it for fear that childbirth would interfere with her academic procedures or disrupt the progress of her thesis.
She confirmed that the hardest moments of her day were those hours leading up to the defense, when academic preparation met with labor pains, but she was determined to finish this important milestone before welcoming her children. She concluded that the day of the defense was an "extraordinary day" that combined the birth of her academic achievement with the birth of her three twins.
