The death of the three-month-old infant in North Carolina was not just a sudden health tragedy, but it unfolded into a criminal nightmare that ended with a grand jury charging her parents with first-degree murder.
The tragedy began when American emergency teams responded to a report of cardiac arrest and the child’s breathing stopping inside the home, quickly turning into a dark security path following the child’s arrival at the hospital and the announcement of her death, as the initial medical examination revealed shocking results that the doctors could not comprehend.
The autopsy results brought a shocking surprise, revealing that the infant had lost nearly a third of her total body weight since birth, and was suffering from severe dehydration and near-complete protein and calorie deficiency, due to her continuous deprivation of essential nutrition.
Investigations proved that neglect and silent torture began just six days after the infant's birth, when parents Kendall Hayes and Glen Delgrico deliberately neglected to feed the infant, ignored signs of medical distress and visible atrophy on her body, and refrained from providing any medical services or living care until she took her last breath.
The circle of accusations did not stop at the parents, who face severe prison sentences; justice's reach also extended to pursue the grandparents with charges related to child abuse and concealing a harsh living environment that led to the infant's death.
