The police in South Africa have found the body of a ninth woman in the Ekurhuleni area east of Johannesburg, amid a series of murders of women that have occurred in the region over the past two months, with investigations underway to determine whether the crimes are connected.
The South African police confirmed today (Thursday) that the latest body was discovered in the "Dawn Park" area, and that the case will be added to the ongoing investigations regarding the deaths of women in Ekurhuleni.
9 Victims
The bodies of the nine women were found in various locations in Ekurhuleni over the past two months, while the police stated that the similarities between some cases have raised enough concern to issue a public warning and intensify investigations.
The authorities have not yet determined whether all the crimes are connected or committed by a single individual, as investigations and forensic evidence are still ongoing to establish any links between the cases.
The Latest Body
A passerby found the ninth body near a construction site and reported it to the police, while it is believed that the woman is in her thirties.
Initial examinations showed injuries on her body, while forensic experts had not officially determined the cause of death by the time the police announced it.
Specialized Team
The police have assigned a multidisciplinary team of experts to investigate the cases, in an effort to identify the individual or individuals responsible for the crimes and uncover any potential links between them.
The authorities also urged residents to provide any information that may assist the investigations and warned against circulating images of the victims or unreliable information on social media, as this could incite fear or impact the progress of the investigations.
Ongoing Investigations
Local authorities confirmed that the police are following several leads in the investigation, while still working to gather and compare evidence before reaching a conclusion regarding whether the cases are connected.
The police continue their investigations into the series of deaths, alongside calls for accountability and enhanced measures to protect women in the area.
