In a resounding ruling that unsettled the artistic and media circles, the Sheikh Zayed Misdemeanor Court in the Giza Governorate of Egypt today (Thursday) sentenced the accused Abdullah Raees, the brother of young artist Rana Raees, to one full year in prison with hard labor, after proving his involvement in a case that included possession of narcotic substances, carrying a white weapon, and driving a car without license plates.
The details of the dramatic incident date back to an event inside one of the upscale residential communities in Sheikh Zayed, when a security patrol became suspicious of a car driving in a strange manner and without rear plates, leading to its immediate stop and a thorough search that revealed heavy surprises.
The security inspection inside the car resulted in the discovery of a bag containing two pieces of hashish, a bottle of alcoholic beverages, in addition to a white weapon, a "self-defense" pepper spray, along with an amount of 100 US dollars.
During the investigations, the young man attempted to deny the charges against him with a strange narrative; he claimed that he had no connection to the hashish or the weapon found in the car, asserting that his ownership was limited only to the amount of 100 dollars! However, the evidence and the confiscated items documented in the report settled the matter before the court, leading the judge to issue a strict sentence of one year in prison with hard labor, converting his recklessness into a punishment behind bars.
