A recent study revealed that 92% of Filipino companies and institutions have used artificial intelligence technologies in one way or another, while the results showed that employees are adopting these tools at a faster pace than the institutions they work for.
The Philippine newspaper “BusinessMirror” reported today (Sunday) that the results were part of the “Philippine Artificial Intelligence Report,” prepared by the consulting firm “Swarm,” which specializes in artificial intelligence, with contributions from the Analytics and Artificial Intelligence Association in the Philippines, and included a survey of 175 institutions.
Employees Bring Their Own Tools
The study showed that 86% of artificial intelligence users within companies are using tools they chose themselves for work, while 42% of them pay for subscription costs out of their own pockets, including tools like “ChatGPT,” “Gemini,” and “Claude.”
The results indicated that the widespread use of artificial intelligence tools among employees often precedes companies establishing formal policies and controls to regulate their use.
65% of Projects Do Not Go Beyond the Pilot Phase
Despite the widespread adoption of the technology, the report found that 65% of artificial intelligence initiatives in Filipino institutions are still stuck in the proof of concept or pilot testing phase, without transitioning to large-scale operational use.
Additionally, 57% of companies reported that a lack of specialized skills in artificial intelligence is the main barrier to expanding the use of the technology.
Productivity Gains Without Employee Layoffs
The study results showed that 76% of participants reported that using artificial intelligence has given them more time for strategic thinking, while 68% said it has reduced the time they spend on writing, and 66% indicated that it has helped them make decisions more quickly.
In contrast, 84% of the institutions included in the study reported no layoffs related to the use of artificial intelligence.
