تعمل المجر تدريجياً على إعادة تشغيل محطة الطاقة النووية «باكس» الوحيدة لديها، وتعتزم تشغيلها بكامل طاقتها بحلول منتصف الأسبوع، بعدما دفعت موجة جفاف اجتاحت أنحاء أوروبا المحطة إلى حافة التوقف الكامل.
وأعيد تشغيل مفاعلين من أصل ثلاثة مفاعلات توقفت خلال الشهر الماضي، خلال عطلة نهاية الأسبوع، ما رفع إنتاج الكهرباء إلى أكثر من نصف الطاقة التشغيلية، مقارنة بعُشر الطاقة عند أدنى مستوى.
وقال رئيس وزراء المجر بيتر ماجيار، اليوم، إن محطة باكس ستعمل بكامل طاقتها البالغة 2000 ميغاواط بحلول الأربعاء.
وتسببت موجات الحر المتتالية خلال الصيف في جفاف المجاري المائية في أنحاء أوروبا، ما أثر بشدة على تدفقات نهر الدانوب وأعاق أنظمة التبريد في المفاعلات النووية.
وتنتج محطة باكس نحو 40% من إجمالي إنتاج الكهرباء في المجر.
Hungary is gradually working to restart its only nuclear power plant, "Paks," and intends to operate it at full capacity by mid-week, after a drought that swept across Europe pushed the plant to the brink of complete shutdown.
Two of the three reactors that were shut down last month were restarted over the weekend, raising electricity production to more than half of operational capacity, compared to one-tenth of capacity at its lowest level.
Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Szijjarto stated today that the Paks plant will operate at its full capacity of 2000 megawatts by Wednesday.
Consecutive heatwaves during the summer have caused waterways across Europe to dry up, severely affecting the flow of the Danube River and hindering cooling systems in nuclear reactors.
The Paks plant produces about 40% of Hungary's total electricity generation.
