YouTube has announced stricter requirements for joining the Partner Program to earn advertising revenue and Premium subscriptions, in a new update that will take effect from February 1, 2027, raising the bar for new content creators to access profits.
Under the new rules, new content creators need 1,000 subscribers, along with achieving 8,000 eligible watch hours in the last 365 days, instead of the current 4,000 hours, or reaching 20 million eligible views for "Shorts" within 90 days, compared to 10 million views under the current requirements.
The platform confirmed that content creators already enrolled in the Partner Program will not be affected by the new changes, while the conditions for accessing audience funding features and YouTube Shopping remain unchanged, as they can be utilized upon reaching 500 subscribers and achieving 3,000 eligible watch hours within a year, or 3 million views for "Shorts" within 90 days.
This move places new content creators under higher standards to access advertising revenue, with doubled viewing requirements for both long and short videos, at a time when YouTube continues to develop its monetization system and enhance the economy of the digital content industry.
