هل تتخيل أن تحول مدينة كاملة إلى «مدينة أشباح» تخلو من سائر البشر بمجرد حلول الساعة التاسعة مساءً؟ هذا ليس مشهداً من فيلم رعب هوليوودي، بل هو الواقع المرير الذي يعيشه سكان بلدة «بوزوس دي غامبوا» المكسيكية، حيث عاد جحيم حرب العصابات ليخيم على الشوارع بطريقة صادمة.
البلدة الصغيرة المعروفة بزراعة الفاصولياء، استيقظ أهاليها على مشهد مروع أعاد إلى الأذهان أسوأ كوابيس العنف، حيث عثروا على خمس جثث تتدلى من أحد الجسور في رسالة دموية صاعقة، تزامناً مع العثور على خمس جثث أخرى في أماكن متفرقة من البلدة، ضمت أسماء بينها رئيس بلدية سابق وموظفون حكوميون ورجال أعمال.
وضع هذا المشهد الدموي كلمة النهاية لفترة هدوء نسبي ظن السكان أنها طوت صفحة الدماء، ليعود الجسر الملعون ليلعب دوره القديم كمنصة لإرسال رسائل الترهيب المرعبة بين عصابات المخدرات.
ويعود هذا التصعيد الجنوني إلى صراع شرس بين أكبر عصابتين لتجارة المخدرات في المكسيك: كارتل خاليسكو الجيل الجديد وكارتل سينالوا، اللتين تتقاتلان بضراوة للسيطرة على ولاية «زاكاتيكاس» الإستراتيجية، باعتبارها الشريان الأهم لتهريب السموم نحو السوق الأمريكية.
هذا الرعب الذي خلفته الحادثة دفع حكومة الرئيسية كلوديا شينباوم إلى التحرك السريع تحت ضغوط محلية ودولية هائلة، متعهدة برد حازم ونشر قوات إضافية من الجيش والحرس الوطني لمحاولة كبح جماح الكارتلات.
واليوم، تبدو البلدة خاوية على عروشها، فأغلب السكان فقدوا أحبة لهم بين قتيل ومختفٍ في دوامة العنف المستمر. وكما وصف أحد السكان المحليين (الذي فضل عدم الكشف عن هويته خوفاً على حياته): «في ما مضى كنت ترى الناس في كل مكان، أما الآن فبحلول التاسعة مساءً لن تجد أحداً في الشوارع».
ويمكن الخلوص إلى أنه بين جثث معلقة تخفي وراءها أسراراً مظلمة، ومخاوف متصاعدة من عودة سنوات الموت المفتوح، يبقى السؤال القائم: هل تستطيع السلطات كسر شوكة عصابات المخدرات أم ستبقى بلدات المكسيك رهينة التحول إلى مدن أشباح؟
Can you imagine a whole city turning into a "ghost town" devoid of all humans as soon as the clock strikes nine in the evening? This is not a scene from a Hollywood horror movie, but rather the bitter reality that the residents of the Mexican town of "Pozos de Gamboa" are living, where the hell of gang warfare has returned to overshadow the streets in a shocking manner.
The small town, known for its bean cultivation, woke up to a horrifying scene that brought back the worst nightmares of violence, as they found five bodies hanging from one of the bridges in a stunning bloody message, coinciding with the discovery of five other bodies in various locations around the town, including names such as a former mayor, government employees, and businessmen.
This bloody scene put an end to a period of relative calm that the residents thought had closed the chapter on bloodshed, as the cursed bridge returned to play its old role as a platform for sending terrifying messages of intimidation between drug cartels.
This insane escalation is attributed to a fierce struggle between the two largest drug trafficking cartels in Mexico: the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and the Sinaloa Cartel, which are fiercely fighting for control over the strategic state of "Zacatecas," considered the most important artery for smuggling drugs into the American market.
The horror left by the incident prompted the government of Claudia Sheinbaum to act swiftly under immense local and international pressure, pledging a firm response and deploying additional forces from the army and the national guard in an attempt to curb the power of the cartels.
Today, the town appears empty, as most residents have lost loved ones, either killed or missing in the ongoing spiral of violence. As one local resident (who preferred to remain anonymous for fear of his life) described: "In the past, you would see people everywhere, but now by nine in the evening, you won't find anyone on the streets."
It can be concluded that amidst the hanging bodies that hide dark secrets and the rising fears of a return to years of open death, the lingering question remains: Can the authorities break the backbone of the drug cartels, or will towns in Mexico remain hostage to becoming ghost cities?
