توقعت المنظمة العالمية للأرصاد الجوية اشتداد ظاهرة «النينيو» خلال الفترة من أغسطس إلى أكتوبر 2026، مما يؤدي إلى ارتفاع درجات الحرارة فوق المعدلات الطبيعية في معظم أنحاء العالم، وتغيّر أنماط هطول الأمطار، وزيادة مخاطر الجفاف والفيضانات وحرائق الغابات.
وأكدت المنظمة أن التوقعات المناخية تتيح للحكومات فرصة لاتخاذ إجراءات الاستعداد والإنذار المبكر، بما يسهم في الحد من آثار الظاهرة.
وأشارت إلى أن «النينيو» تُعد أحد أبرز المحركات الطبيعية لتقلبات المناخ عالمياً، وتتكرر كل عامين إلى 7 أعوام، وتستمر عادةً من 9 إلى 12 شهراً، فيما تختلف آثارها من منطقة إلى أخرى بحسب شدتها وتفاعلها مع الأنماط المناخية الأخرى.
The World Meteorological Organization has predicted that the phenomenon of "El Niño" will intensify during the period from August to October 2026, leading to higher temperatures above normal levels in most parts of the world, changes in rainfall patterns, and increased risks of drought, floods, and wildfires.
The organization confirmed that climate forecasts provide governments with an opportunity to take preparedness and early warning actions, which contribute to mitigating the effects of the phenomenon.
It noted that "El Niño" is one of the most prominent natural drivers of global climate variability, occurring every two to seven years, and typically lasting from nine to twelve months, with its effects varying from region to region depending on its intensity and interaction with other climate patterns.
