في واقعة مأساوية، لفظ محامٍ مصري أنفاسه الأخيرة بشكل مفاجئ، اليوم (الثلاثاء)، إثر تعرضه لوعكة صحية مفاجئة أثناء حضوره جلسة بمحكمة جنايات قنا في جنوب مصر، حيث كان يتولى المرافعة في إحدى القضايا، في واقعة أثارت حالة واسعة من الحزن داخل الأوساط القانونية والقضائية.
وتلقت أجهزة الأمن بقنا، إخطاراً من غرفة العمليات يفيد بوفاة المحامى عصام محمد على عبدالله البطاوى (عصام البطاوي)، أثناء تواجده بمقر محكمة جنايات قنا.
وجرى نقل جثمان المحامى الراحل إلى مشرحة المستشفى وسط حالة من الحزن بين جموع المحامين بقنا، لما يتمتع به من علاقات طيبة مع الكثير من أبناء المهنة.
فيما تحولت صفحات المحامين إلى سرادق عزاء تنعى المحامى الفقيد، واصفين إياه بأنه شهيد المهنة، داعين المولى عز وجل أن يتغمده بواسع الرحمة والمغفرة، وأن يلهم ذويه الصبر والسلوان.
وبحسب المعلومات الأولية، شعر البطاوي بإعياء مفاجئ أثناء وجوده داخل المحكمة، قبل أن يسقط مغشياً عليه، إذ جرت محاولات لإسعافه ونقله لتلقي الرعاية الطبية، إلا أنه فارق الحياة بعد وقت قصير.
وبينما أشارت تقارير إعلامية إلى احتمال تعرضه لأزمة قلبية، ذكرت تقارير أخرى أنه أصيب بغيبوبة سكر.
فيما أمرت الجهات المختصة بالتصريح بدفن جثمان، المحامي والتحرك بجثمانه لدفنه بمسقط رأسه ليدفن في مدافن الوفاء والأمل بمدينة نصر.
وأضافت أن الفقيد فاضت روحه الطاهرة إلى بارئها وهو مرابط في محراب العدالة بمحكمة جنايات قنا، مدافعاً بشرف وأمانة عن رسالة الحق.
وأعلنت الصفحة الرسمية للمحامى الراحل عصام البطاوى، أن صلاة الجنازة تقام عقب صلاة المغرب بمسجد حسن الشربتلي بالتجمع الخامس والعزاء غداً بمسجد الشرطة بالتجمع الخامس.
وكان المحامي الراحل قد حضر من القاهرة إلى محافظة قنا للمرافعة في إحدى القضايا المنظورة أمام محكمة الجنايات، قبل أن يتعرض للوعكة الصحية داخل مقر المحكمة.
من هو عصام البطاوي؟
يُعد عصام البطاوي من أبرز المحامين أمام محكمة النقض في مصر، واشتهر بتوليه الدفاع في عدد من القضايا ذات الصدى الإعلامي، من بينها: الدفاع عن وزير الداخلية الأسبق حبيب العادلي في قضايا مرتبطة بأحداث ثورة يناير، المشاركة في هيئة الدفاع خلال ما عُرف إعلامياً بـ«محاكمة القرن»، الدفاع عن رجل الأعمال حسن راتب في قضية الآثار الكبرى، الترافع في عدد من القضايا الجنائية البارزة أمام محاكم الجنايات والنقض.

وفي مطلع مايو الماضي شهدت محكمه بلقاس الجزئية بمحافظة الدقهلية واقعة مأساوية بعد وفاة محامٍ بشكل مفاجئ أثناء تواجده داخل قاعة المحكمة، خلال أداء عمله ومباشرته إجراءات إحدى القضايا.
In a tragic incident, an Egyptian lawyer suddenly breathed his last today (Tuesday) after suffering a sudden health crisis while attending a session at the Qena Criminal Court in southern Egypt, where he was handling a case, an event that has sparked widespread sorrow within legal and judicial circles.
The security authorities in Qena received a notification from the operations room indicating the death of lawyer Essam Mohamed Ali Abdallah Al-Batawi (Essam Al-Batawi) while he was at the Qena Criminal Court.
The body of the late lawyer was transferred to the hospital morgue amidst a state of sadness among the lawyers in Qena, due to his good relationships with many of his colleagues in the profession.
Meanwhile, the lawyers' pages turned into mourning tents, mourning the deceased lawyer, describing him as a martyr of the profession, praying to the Almighty to envelop him in vast mercy and forgiveness, and to inspire his family with patience and solace.
According to initial information, Al-Batawi felt sudden fatigue while inside the court before collapsing. Attempts were made to provide him with first aid and transfer him for medical care, but he passed away shortly after.
While media reports suggested that he may have suffered a heart attack, other reports mentioned that he had experienced a diabetic coma.
The relevant authorities ordered the permission for the burial of the lawyer's body and to move it for burial in his hometown at the Wafa and Amal cemetery in Nasr City.
The Bar Association stated in a statement: With hearts believing in God's decree and destiny, and with profound sadness and grief mixed with pride and honor, the Qena Bar Association—its president, members, and general assembly—mourns the martyr of duty and free speech; a symbol of defense, colleague Essam Al-Batawi, the lawyer.
It added that the pure soul of the deceased ascended to its Creator while he was steadfast in the temple of justice at the Qena Criminal Court, honorably and faithfully defending the message of truth.
The official page of the late lawyer Essam Al-Batawi announced that the funeral prayer will be held after the Maghrib prayer at Hassan Al-Sharbatly Mosque in the Fifth Settlement, and the condolences will be tomorrow at the Police Mosque in the Fifth Settlement.
The late lawyer had traveled from Cairo to Qena Governorate to plead in one of the cases being heard before the criminal court before he suffered the health crisis inside the court premises.
Who is Essam Al-Batawi?
Essam Al-Batawi is considered one of the most prominent lawyers before the Court of Cassation in Egypt, and he became known for defending several high-profile cases, including: defending former Interior Minister Habib Al-Adly in cases related to the January Revolution events, participating in the defense team during what was known in the media as the "Trial of the Century," defending businessman Hassan Rateb in the major antiquities case, and pleading in several prominent criminal cases before the criminal and cassation courts.
