The Italian street was shaken by a tragic incident that recalled the scenario of the murder of "George Floyd," after Moroccan businessman Abdel Rahim Fakir (42 years old) lost his life while being detained by police officers in Bologna, northern Italy.

Footage documenting the incident garnered millions of views and captured the victim's last moments as he screamed for help under the feet of the police, struggling to breathe, turning the incident immediately into a public outcry and a political and judicial crisis that affected the right-wing Italian government.

The data and field recordings showcase the final minutes in the life of the victim, Abdel Rahim Fakir, who owned a small transportation and cleaning company and had been living in Italy since childhood:

• The first report: A police patrol, accompanied by an ambulance, was dispatched to the "Bolognina" neighborhood in Bologna following reports of a person experiencing a "psychotic episode" and acting erratically while damaging a car.
• Use of excessive force: Despite his previous struggles with heart disease and asthma, and temperatures exceeding 35 degrees Celsius, the police used pepper spray and physical force to bring him down on his stomach.
• The terrifying moments: Footage captured by a resident showed the victim repeatedly screaming in Italian: "Aiuto.. basta" (Help me.. that's enough), while two police officers were kneeling on his body and a civilian pressed down on his legs, with paramedics standing nearby without intervening.
• Restraint after pulse cessation: The footage showed one of the police officers continuing to restrain the victim's ankles with handcuffs even after he had completely stopped moving and lost consciousness, before the medical team began to check his vital signs, which had faded.

6 Charged with Involuntary Manslaughter

In the face of the overwhelming wave of anger and protests that erupted in the streets of Bologna, judicial authorities rushed to take urgent measures:

• Opening a criminal investigation: The Bologna Prosecutor's Office officially announced the opening of an investigation on suspicion of "involuntary manslaughter."
• List of defendants: The names of 6 individuals were included in the preliminary proceedings, consisting of two police officers from the "Bolognina Ponticchio" station who participated in the arrest, and four members of the ambulance crew who were present at the scene.
• Body camera footage: The Bologna police handed over the body camera recordings of their officers to the public prosecutor's office to reconstruct the details of the incident and accurately determine responsibilities.

Khadeeja Fakir (the victim's sister) expressed her anger in statements to the Italian newspaper "Corriere della Sera," asserting that her brother was assaulted and beaten, saying bitterly: "No one should die this way... The police's job is to protect us, and if someone is in a state of distress, they should be calmed down, not killed like a dog."
