رحلت الممثلة الأيرلندية المخضرمة بريندا فريكر عن عمر ناهز 81 عاماً، بعد مسيرة فنية امتدت لعقود تركت خلالها بصمة بارزة في السينما والتلفزيون، واشتهرت عالمياً بأدوارها في فيلم My Left Foot، الذي منحها جائزة الأوسكار، إلى جانب مشاركتها في فيلم Home Alone 2 والمسلسل الطبي الشهير Casualty.
وأعلن وكيل أعمالها، فيل بيلفيلد، نبأ الوفاة، معرباً عن حزنه العميق، وقال في بيان: «لن نرى مثلها مرة أخرى، والعالم أصبح أقل إشراقاً برحيلها».
وأضاف: «كان شرفاً لي أن أعرفها وأحبها وأعمل معها، وستظل دائماً تحتل مكانة خاصة في قلبي وقلوب ملايين عشاق السينما والتلفزيون حول العالم».
وكانت فريكر قد حققت إنجازاً تاريخياً عام 1990 عندما أصبحت أول ممثلة أيرلندية تفوز بجائزة الأوسكار لأفضل ممثلة مساعدة، عن أدائها لشخصية والدة الفنان دانيال داي لويس في فيلم My Left Foot، وهو الدور الذي تفوقت به على عدد من نجمات هوليوود، من بينهن جوليا روبرتس وأنجيليكا هيوستن.
وفي التلفزيون، ارتبط اسمها بمسلسل Casualty، إذ جسدت شخصية الممرضة ميغان روتش منذ انطلاق العمل على هيئة الإذاعة البريطانية (BBC) عام 1986، وظلت إحدى الشخصيات الأساسية حتى عام 1990، قبل أن تعود للظهور في حلقات متفرقة، وكان آخر ظهور لها في المسلسل عام 2010.
كما نالت شهرة واسعة لدى جمهور السينما من خلال دور سيدة الحمام المشردة في حديقة سنترال بارك، التي تصادق الطفل «كيفن»، الذي أداه ماكولاي كولكين، في فيلم Home Alone 2 الصادر عام 1992، وهو أحد أكثر أدوارها جماهيرية.
وُلدت بريندا فريكر في العاصمة الأيرلندية دبلن، وبدأت مسيرتها الفنية من خلال المسرح والتلفزيون، قبل أن تشارك في مسلسل Coronation Street عام 1977، ثم ظهرت في العمل الدرامي Licking Hitler الذي كتبه ديفيد هير عام 1978.

Veteran Irish actress Brenda Fricker has passed away at the age of 81, after a career spanning decades during which she left a significant mark in cinema and television. She gained international fame for her roles in the film My Left Foot, which earned her an Oscar, as well as her participation in the film Home Alone 2 and the popular medical series Casualty.
Her agent, Phil Belfield, announced the news of her death, expressing his deep sorrow, and said in a statement: “We will not see her like again, and the world has become a less bright place with her passing.”
He added: “It was an honor to know her, love her, and work with her, and she will always hold a special place in my heart and in the hearts of millions of cinema and television lovers around the world.”
Fricker achieved a historic milestone in 1990 when she became the first Irish actress to win the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress for her performance as the mother of artist Daniel Day-Lewis in My Left Foot, a role in which she outshone several Hollywood stars, including Julia Roberts and Anjelica Huston.
On television, her name became associated with the series Casualty, where she portrayed the character of nurse Megan Roach since the show launched on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in 1986. She remained one of the main characters until 1990, before returning for sporadic appearances, with her last appearance in the series in 2010.
She also gained wide recognition among cinema audiences for her role as the homeless bathroom lady in Central Park, who befriends the child "Kevin," played by Macaulay Culkin, in the film Home Alone 2, released in 1992, which is one of her most popular roles.
Brenda Fricker was born in the Irish capital Dublin and began her artistic career through theater and television, before participating in the series Coronation Street in 1977. She then appeared in the drama Licking Hitler, written by David Hare, in 1978.
She also participated in the first episode of the series Casualty in 1986, later becoming one of the most prominent faces of British drama, before continuing her career with diverse roles in cinema and television, leaving an artistic legacy that made her one of the most important actresses in the history of Ireland.
