حذّرت منظمة الصحة العالمية من استمرار تفشي فايروس الإيبولا في جمهورية الكونغو الديمقراطية بوتيرة تتجاوز قدرات الاستجابة، رغم التقدم المحرز في العلاج والفحوصات وتعقب المخالطين.
وأوضحت المنظمة أن عدد الإصابات المؤكدة بلغ 1,926 حالة، فيما وصل عدد الوفيات إلى 702 حتى 11 يوليو الجاري، ليُعد ثالث أكبر تفشٍّ للإيبولا على مستوى العالم، مشيرةً إلى أن وفاة عدد من المصابين داخل مجتمعاتهم قبل تلقي الرعاية الصحية تُمثّل مصدر قلق رئيسًا.
ودعت منظمة الصحة العالمية إلى تعزيز الكشف المبكر، وتعقب المخالطين، وسد فجوة التمويل المقدرة بـ70 مليون دولار أمريكي.
The World Health Organization has warned of the continued spread of the Ebola virus in the Democratic Republic of the Congo at a pace that exceeds response capabilities, despite the progress made in treatment, testing, and contact tracing.
The organization indicated that the number of confirmed cases has reached 1,926, while the death toll has risen to 702 as of July 11, making it the third largest Ebola outbreak in the world. It noted that the deaths of several infected individuals within their communities before receiving healthcare represent a major concern.
The World Health Organization called for strengthening early detection, contact tracing, and closing the funding gap estimated at 70 million US dollars.
