لم يكد أهالي قرية كفر الفرعونية في المنوفية يستفيقون من يومهم العادي حتى وجدوا أنفسهم أمام مشهد لا يحدث إلا في الأفلام الوثائقية: تمساح صغير يشق مياه النيل بهدوء، وكأنه ضيف غريب هبط على القرية دون موعد.
القصة بدأت حين كان شاب من أبناء القرية يسبح في المجرى المائي، فاقترب من كائن ظنه سمكة ضخمة، قبل أن يكتشف عند الإمساك به أنه تمساح حقيقي، ليبدأ صراخ المارة وتنتشر حالة من الفزع بين الأهالي.
خلال دقائق، وصلت قوة أمنية إلى المكان، وتم التحفظ على التمساح الذي بلغ طوله نحو 60 سنتيمتراً، ويُقدّر عمره بثلاثة أشهر فقط. الأجهزة البيطرية تسلمت الحيوان لفحصه؛ تمهيداً لنقله إلى بيئة آمنة لا تهدد حياة المواطنين.
التحريات رجّحت أن التمساح لم يأتِ من الجنوب ولا من بحيرة ناصر، بل من منزل أحد الهواة الذين يشترون صغار التماسيح من أسواق الحيوانات الشهيرة في القاهرة، مثل سوق السيدة عائشة. ومع نمو الحيوان السريع وتحوله إلى كائن شرس يصعب السيطرة عليه، يلجأ البعض إلى التخلص منه بإلقائه في الترع والمصارف.
الواقعة لم تكن الأولى، فقد سبقتها مشاهد مشابهة في الجيزة والقليوبية والشرقية، ما أثار تساؤلات واسعة حول انتشار ظاهرة "التربية المنزلية غير القانونية" للتماسيح، وتحولها إلى خطر حقيقي يهدد الأهالي.
مديرية الطب البيطري أعلنت بدء إجراءات نقل التمساح إلى حديقة الأسماك بالقاهرة، بالتزامن مع حملة تمشيط واسعة للمجاري المائية المحيطة، للتأكد من خلو المنطقة من أي زواحف أخرى.
وبين الدهشة والخوف، يبقى السؤال الذي يشغل الجميع: كم تمساحاً آخر يسبح في مياه لا نتوقع أن نرى فيها سوى الأسماك؟
The residents of the village of Kafr Al-Far'ouniya in Menoufia barely woke up from their ordinary day when they found themselves facing a scene that could only happen in documentaries: a small crocodile gliding through the waters of the Nile calmly, as if it were a strange guest who had descended upon the village unannounced.
The story began when a young man from the village was swimming in the waterway and approached a creature he thought was a massive fish, only to discover upon grabbing it that it was a real crocodile, leading to the screams of passersby and a state of panic among the residents.
Within minutes, a security force arrived at the scene and secured the crocodile, which measured about 60 centimeters in length and is estimated to be only three months old. Veterinary authorities took custody of the animal for examination, in preparation for transferring it to a safe environment that does not threaten the lives of citizens.
Investigations suggested that the crocodile did not come from the south or Lake Nasser, but rather from the home of one of the hobbyists who buy young crocodiles from famous animal markets in Cairo, such as the Sayyida Aisha market. As the animal grows rapidly and transforms into a fierce creature that is difficult to control, some resort to disposing of it by throwing it into canals and drains.
This incident was not the first; it was preceded by similar scenes in Giza, Qalyubia, and Sharqia, raising widespread questions about the phenomenon of "illegal home breeding" of crocodiles and its transformation into a real danger threatening the residents.
The Directorate of Veterinary Medicine announced the start of procedures to transfer the crocodile to the Fish Garden in Cairo, coinciding with a large-scale sweep of the surrounding waterways to ensure the area is free of any other reptiles.
Amidst astonishment and fear, the question that occupies everyone remains: how many other crocodiles are swimming in waters where we expect to see only fish?
