تواجه الحكومة البريطانية انتقادات من كبرى شركات التكنولوجيا، بعد إعلان رئيس الوزراء كير ستارمر خطة لحظر استخدام منصات التواصل الاجتماعي لمن هم دون 16 عاماً، ضمن إجراءات تستهدف تعزيز سلامة الأطفال على الإنترنت والحد من التأثيرات السلبية للمحتوى الرقمي.
ومن المقرر تطبيق الإجراءات الجديدة بحلول ربيع العام القادم، ما يجعل المملكة المتحدة من أكثر الدول تشدداً في تنظيم استخدام الأطفال والمراهقين لوسائل التواصل الاجتماعي.
وأعربت شركات تقنية بارزة، من بينها ميتا ويوتيوب وسناب شات، عن تحفظها على القرار، محذرة من أن الحظر قد يدفع المراهقين إلى استخدام منصات أقل أماناً وخاضعة لرقابة محدودة. وقالت «ميتا»، إن القيود المشددة قد تعزل المراهقين عن مجتمعات رقمية مفيدة ومصادر معلومات مهمة، وتوجههم نحو بدائل غير منظمة. كما رأت «يوتيوب»، أن الحظر الشامل قد يحرم الأطفال من محتوى تعليمي وإبداعي آمن، بينما أكدت «سناب شات»، أن التواصل بين الأصدقاء والعائلة يمثل جوهر استخدام المنصة، وأن منع هذه الروابط قد يدفع المستخدمين الصغار إلى تطبيقات أقل حماية.

Prominent tech companies, including Meta, YouTube, and Snapchat, have expressed their reservations about the decision, warning that the ban could push teenagers towards less safe platforms with limited oversight. Meta stated that the strict restrictions could isolate teenagers from beneficial digital communities and important sources of information, directing them towards unregulated alternatives. YouTube noted that a comprehensive ban could deprive children of safe educational and creative content, while Snapchat emphasized that communication between friends and family is at the core of using the platform, and preventing these connections could drive young users to less protected apps.
