استيقظت العاصمة العراقية بغداد على فاجعة هزت الأوساط الشعبية، إثر إقدام شابة في أواخر العشرينات من عمرها على إلقاء نفسها برفقة طفلها الصغير من الطابق الرابع لبناية سكنية في منطقة الغزالية غربي العاصمة، في ظروف ما زال يكتنفها الغموض.
وأسفر الحادث الأليم عن وفاة الطفل، الذي لم يتجاوز عامه السادس فوراً جراء قوة الارتطام بالأرض، في حين نُقلت الأم إلى المستشفى في حالة صحية حرجة للغاية بعد إصابتها بجروح وكسور خطيرة.
من جانبها، فرضت الأجهزة الأمنية طوقاً حول موقع الحادث وباشرت تحقيقات موسعة للكشف عن ملابسات ودوافع هذه الواقعة المأساوية، التي تأتي في وقت تشير التقارير الرسمية إلى تصاعد مقلق في معدلات الانتحار في البلاد خلال السنوات الأخيرة لأسباب اقتصادية واجتماعية ونفسية مختلفة.
The Iraqi capital, Baghdad, woke up to a tragedy that shook the popular circles, following a young woman in her late twenties throwing herself along with her small child from the fourth floor of a residential building in the Ghazaliya area west of the capital, under circumstances that remain shrouded in mystery.
The tragic incident resulted in the immediate death of the child, who had not yet reached his sixth year, due to the force of the impact with the ground, while the mother was taken to the hospital in an extremely critical condition after suffering serious injuries and fractures.
For its part, the security forces cordoned off the site of the incident and began extensive investigations to uncover the circumstances and motives behind this tragic event, which comes at a time when official reports indicate a concerning rise in suicide rates in the country in recent years due to various economic, social, and psychological reasons.
