أفادت تقارير صحفية بأن أكثر من 200 شكوى قُدمت من جنود أمريكيين في جميع فروع القوات المسلحة، بعد أوامر المشاركة في العمليات العسكرية ضد إيران، وسط مزاعم بأن قادتهم استخدموا خطابًا دينيًا مستندًا إلى «نهاية الزمان» التوراتية لتبرير الحرب، بحسب صحيفة الجارديان.
ووفق مؤسسة الحرية الدينية العسكرية MRFF، شملت الشكاوى أفرادًا من المارينز والقوات الجوية وقوات الفضاء، حيث أشار أحد ضباط الصف إلى أن قيادته حثتهم على تصوير الحرب على أنها جزء من خطة إلهية، مستشهدًا بنصوص من سفر الرؤيا المتعلقة بـ«معركة هرمجدون» وعودة المسيح.
وأكد الضابط أن الرئيس الأمريكي دونالد ترمب وُصف بأنه «تم مسحه من قبل يسوع لإشعال حرب الإشارة في إيران»، في تصريحات أثارت صدمة الجنود، مشيرًا إلى أن الشكوى نيابة عن 15 جنديًا تضمنت 11 مسيحيًا، وشخص مسلم وآخر يهودي.
وقال رئيس MRFF مايكي وينشتاين إن هذه الشكاوى تكشف زيادة التطرف الديني داخل الجيش الأمريكي، وانتهاك واضح للفصل بين الكنيسة والدولة، معتبرًا أن بعض القادة يتصورون الحرب على أنها «مباركة توراتيًا» وعلامة لا يمكن إنكارها لاقتراب «نهاية الزمان».
وتأتي هذه الشكاوى في ظل دعم وزير الدفاع الأمريكي بيت هيجسيث للقومية المسيحية، واعتناقه لمعتقدات تروج لـ«سيادة المجالات» وفرض عقوبات صارمة على مخالفيها، ما أثار نقاشاً واسعًا في الجيش الأمريكي حول تأثير المعتقدات الدينية على القرارات العسكرية.
Reports have indicated that more than 200 complaints have been filed by American soldiers across all branches of the armed forces, following orders to participate in military operations against Iran, amid allegations that their leaders used religious rhetoric based on the biblical "end times" to justify the war, according to The Guardian.
According to the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), the complaints included individuals from the Marines, Air Force, and Space Force, where one non-commissioned officer noted that his leadership urged them to portray the war as part of a divine plan, citing texts from the Book of Revelation related to the "Battle of Armageddon" and the return of Christ.
The officer confirmed that President Donald Trump was described as "anointed by Jesus to ignite the signal war in Iran," in statements that shocked the soldiers, noting that the complaint on behalf of 15 soldiers included 11 Christians, one Muslim, and one Jewish person.
MRFF President Mikey Weinstein stated that these complaints reveal an increase in religious extremism within the U.S. military and a clear violation of the separation of church and state, considering that some leaders perceive the war as "biblically blessed" and an undeniable sign of the approaching "end times."
These complaints come amid support from U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for Christian nationalism and his embrace of beliefs that promote "dominionism" and impose strict penalties on dissenters, sparking a wide debate within the U.S. military about the impact of religious beliefs on military decisions.
