تحولت رحلة عادية للخطوط الجوية البريطانية إلى كابوس حقيقي، بعد أن فقد رجل الأعمال البريطاني فيليب غولد (64 عاماً) السيطرة على نفسه بسبب الإفراط في تناول الكحول، ما أدى إلى سلسلة من الأحداث الصادمة على متن الطائرة. فالمسافر المخمور لم يكتفِ بالتهجم على الركاب، بل اعتدى على مضيفة الطيران بقضم أذنها وصفع زوجته وهدد الطاقم، كما حاول اقتحام قمرة القيادة والصراخ في وجه الطيار، في تصرفات هددت سلامة الجميع على متن الرحلة.
ووصفت القاضية هانا دنكان تصرفات غولد بأنها «أزعجت وأرعبت الركاب، وأدت إلى سقوط أحد أفراد الطاقم على الركاب، ولا يمكن تبريرها بأنها مزاح بريء»، مؤكدة أن سلوكه شكّل تهديداً حقيقياً للسلامة العامة للطائرة.
في المقابل، حاول غولد تبرير أفعاله بالقول إنه كان «يمزح مع الطاقم»، بينما ذكرت زوجته أن تصرفه جاء نتيجة خلاف مع أصدقاء خلال العطلة، لكن المحكمة لم تقبل هذه الحجج.
واعترف غولد سابقاً بالاعتداء الجنسي، والسلوك المتهور، والتأثير الواضح للكحول أثناء الرحلة، قبل أن يُلقى القبض عليه فور هبوط الطائرة في مطار هيثرو.
وبناء على هذه الأفعال، حكمت المحكمة عليه بالسجن لمدة 14 شهراً، لتكون هذه الواقعة درساً صارخاً حول خطورة الإفراط في الكحول على متن الطائرات وسلوكيات الركاب التي قد تهدد أرواح الآخرين.
A routine flight with British Airways turned into a real nightmare after British businessman Philip Gold (64) lost control of himself due to excessive alcohol consumption, leading to a series of shocking events on board the plane. The drunken passenger not only attacked fellow travelers but also assaulted a flight attendant by biting her ear, slapped his wife, and threatened the crew, while attempting to breach the cockpit and scream at the pilot, in actions that jeopardized the safety of everyone on the flight.
Judge Hannah Duncan described Gold's behavior as "disturbing and terrifying to passengers, leading to one crew member falling onto passengers, and cannot be justified as innocent joking," emphasizing that his conduct posed a real threat to the aircraft's public safety.
In contrast, Gold tried to justify his actions by claiming he was "joking with the crew," while his wife stated that his behavior resulted from a disagreement with friends during the holiday, but the court did not accept these arguments.
Gold had previously admitted to sexual assault, reckless behavior, and the obvious influence of alcohol during the flight, before being arrested immediately upon landing at Heathrow Airport.
Based on these actions, the court sentenced him to 14 months in prison, making this incident a stark lesson about the dangers of excessive alcohol consumption on airplanes and passenger behaviors that may threaten the lives of others.
