France is witnessing one of the most complex criminal cases in its modern history, as justice is trying a pair of identical twins that authorities have so far been unable to determine which of them committed a double murder, due to their genetic fingerprints being completely identical.

Exceptional Trial

The criminal court in Bobigny, north of Paris, is examining the case of twins Samuel and Jeremy (33 years old), along with three other defendants, accused of committing a murder that occurred in September 2020 and caused widespread shock in the country.

Execution in a Basement

According to investigations, the victims, Tediani (17 years old) and Sofiane (25 years old), were killed after being subjected to heavy gunfire inside a basement of a residential complex in the Saint-Ouen area, in a crime described as a "field execution." The twins also face additional charges of attempted murder related to organized gang activities.

DNA Dilemma

The main obstacle for investigators was finding DNA on the murder weapon; however, genetic analyses failed to identify the shooter, as the defendants are identical "monozygotic" twins who share the same genetic makeup.

Indecisive Suspicion

Court sources confirmed that the brothers are suspected of being involved in planning the crime, but the biological evidence does not allow for definitively attributing the act to one without the other.

Similarity Used as a Weapon

The police indicated that the twins exploited their striking resemblance during their criminal activities by exchanging clothes, phone lines, and even identity documents, in a systematic attempt to confuse investigations and obstruct the truth.

Searching for the Truth

With the impossibility of distinguishing through genetic evidence, investigators are currently relying on analyzing communication records, surveillance camera footage, and phone tapping to reconstruct the sequence of events and uncover the real perpetrator.

Similarity Complicates Matters

The situation is further complicated by the near-complete resemblance between the brothers, both in their external appearance, with their similar pointed beards, and in suffering from the same health issue in their leg.

Tension in the Courtroom

The trial sessions have witnessed tense atmospheres, after the court decided to expel the twins from the room for refusing to stand, while a final verdict is expected to be issued before the end of this month.
