أعلنت السلطات الأسترالية، اليوم، إنقاذ 20 شخصاً من مياه الفيضانات في ولاية نيو ساوث ويلز بشرق البلاد، في أعقاب أمطار غزيرة أدَّت إلى إصدار تحذيرات للسكان بضرورة الانتقال إلى مناطق مرتفعة.
وأفادت السلطات بأن فرق الطوارئ نفَّذت عمليات إجلاء في وقت متأخر من مساء أمس في سيدني، عاصمة الولاية وأكبر مدن أستراليا، بعد أن اجتاحت فيضانات خطيرة ضاحية نارابين المنخفضة.
وأوضحت أنها استجابت لأكثر من 1,400 بلاغ في مناطق متفرقة من الولاية منذ بدء هطول الأمطار، مشيرة إلى أن معظم عمليات الإنقاذ تعلقت بأشخاص حاولوا عبور مياه الفيضانات بمركباتهم.
وحذّرت السلطات من احتمال تعرّض جنوب سيدني للمزيد من العواصف الرعدية وحالة من عدم الاستقرار الجوي خلال اليوم، داعية السكان إلى توخي الحذر واتخاذ الاحتياطات اللازمة.
Australian authorities announced today the rescue of 20 people from floodwaters in New South Wales in the east of the country, following heavy rains that led to warnings for residents to move to higher ground.
The authorities reported that emergency teams carried out evacuation operations late last night in Sydney, the state capital and Australia's largest city, after severe flooding swept through the low-lying suburb of Narabeen.
They clarified that they responded to more than 1,400 reports in various areas of the state since the rain began, noting that most of the rescues involved people attempting to cross floodwaters in their vehicles.
The authorities warned of the possibility of further thunderstorms and unstable weather conditions in southern Sydney throughout the day, urging residents to exercise caution and take necessary precautions.
