لقي سبعة أشخاص مصرعهم وأصيب 7 آخرون بحالات اختناق متفاوتة الخطورة، إثر اندلاع حريق هائل مساء أمس (الإثنين) داخل مصحة خاصة غير مرخصة لعلاج الإدمان بمدينة بنها في محافظة القليوبية في مصر.
ونشب الحريق في الطابق الثاني بعقار مكون من أربعة طوابق يقع أمام كلية العلوم كان يُستغل مصحة لعلاج الإدمان.
الدخان الكثيف المنبعث من الحريق الذي امتد بسرعة بسبب وجود مواد قابلة للاشتعال داخل الشقة أدى إلى اختناق معظم الضحايا قبل وصول قوات الإطفاء.
6 سيارات إطفاء و10 سيارات إسعاف
ودفعت الحماية المدنية بالقليوبية بـ6 سيارات إطفاء و10 سيارات إسعاف، وتمكنت القوات من إخماد الحريق بعد ساعات من الجهد المكثف، لكن الوفيات حدثت في الغالب نتيجة الاختناق بالدخان وليس الحرق المباشر.
ونقل المصابون إلى مستشفيَي بنها التعليمي وجامعة بنها، فيما تبين أن جثث المتوفين مجهولة الهوية حتى الآن لعدم وجود أوراق ثبوتية معهم.
وأكدت التحريات الأولية أن المصحة غير مرخصة من وزارة الصحة والسكان، وتعمل بشكل سري داخل شقة سكنية عادية، دون أي اشتراطات سلامة أو مخارج طوارئ كافية أو أجهزة إنذار حريق.
وتشهد مصر تكرار حوادث مشابهة في مراكز علاج الإدمان الخاصة غير المرخصة، وتنتشر هذه المصحات بشكل كبير في السنوات الأخيرة بسبب ارتفاع تكاليف العلاج في المستشفيات الحكومية وزيادة الطلب، وغالباً ما تفتقر هذه المراكز إلى أبسط معايير السلامة، ما يحولها إلى فخاخ موت في حالات الطوارئ.
وشهدت الفترة من 2020–2025 عدة حوادث حرائق أو وفيات في مراكز إدمان خاصة أبرزها حريق مركز بالإسكندرية 2022 أسفر عن 4 وفيات، وحالات اختناق جماعي في المنوفية والشرقية، كما سجلت وزارة الصحة خلال 2025 وحدها غلق أكثر من 120 مركزاً غير مرخص بسبب مخالفات سلامة وصحية.
Seven people died and 7 others suffered varying degrees of suffocation due to a massive fire that broke out last night (Monday) inside an unlicensed private rehabilitation center for addiction treatment in the city of Benha, in Qalyubia Governorate, Egypt.
The fire erupted on the second floor of a four-story building located in front of the Faculty of Science, which was being used as a rehabilitation center for addiction.
The thick smoke emitted from the fire, which spread rapidly due to the presence of flammable materials inside the apartment, caused most of the victims to suffocate before the firefighting forces arrived.
6 Fire Trucks and 10 Ambulances
The civil protection in Qalyubia dispatched 6 fire trucks and 10 ambulances, and the forces managed to extinguish the fire after hours of intensive effort, but the deaths mostly occurred due to smoke inhalation rather than direct burns.
The injured were transferred to Benha Educational Hospital and Benha University Hospital, while it was found that the bodies of the deceased remain unidentified so far due to the absence of identification papers with them.
Initial investigations confirmed that the center was unlicensed by the Ministry of Health and Population, operating secretly within a regular residential apartment, without any safety requirements or adequate emergency exits or fire alarm systems.
Egypt has witnessed a recurrence of similar incidents in unlicensed private addiction treatment centers, which have proliferated significantly in recent years due to the high costs of treatment in public hospitals and increased demand. These centers often lack the most basic safety standards, turning them into death traps in emergencies.
From 2020 to 2025, there have been several incidents of fires or fatalities in private addiction centers, the most notable being a fire at a center in Alexandria in 2022 that resulted in 4 deaths, and cases of mass suffocation in Menoufia and Sharqia. The Ministry of Health recorded the closure of more than 120 unlicensed centers in 2025 alone due to safety and health violations.
