أعلنت هيئة السجون في الإكوادور، (الإثنين)، وفاة 15 سجينا داخل سجن ليتورال بمدينة جواياكيل، خلال الفترة الممتدة من الخميس إلى الأحد الماضيين. وأشارت السلطات إلى أن السبب الرئيسي للوفيات مرتبط بإصابة السجناء بالسل.
وكانت هيئة السجون في الإكوادور قد أعلنت في شهر نوفمبر الماضي العثور على 10 سجناء متوفين داخل سجن ليتورال، مشيرة آنذاك إلى أن مرض السل يُعد سبباً محتملاً للوفاة، بانتظار ما تسفر عنه نتائج تحقيقات الطب الشرعي، دون أن تصدر لاحقاً توضيحاً رسمياً جديداً بشأن تلك الحادثة.
ويُشار إلى أن سجن ليتورال شهد خلال الأشهر الماضية عدداً من حوادث العنف، من بينها سقوط ما لا يقل عن 31 قتيلاً في نوفمبر، وذلك عقب يوم واحد من اندلاع أعمال شغب داخل السجن، ما يعكس استمرار التحديات الأمنية والصحية التي تواجهها المنشأة.

It is worth noting that the Litoral prison has witnessed a number of violent incidents in recent months, including at least 31 fatalities in November, following a day of riots inside the prison, reflecting the ongoing security and health challenges faced by the facility.
