ثار بركان في ساكوراجيما بمحافظة كاجوشيما جنوب غربي اليابان في وقت مبكر من اليوم (الأحد)، وفق وكالة الأرصاد الجوية اليابانية، مما تسبب في إطلاق أعمدة من الرماد والدخان وصل ارتفاعه إلى 4,400 متر في الغلاف الجوي.
وأفادت الوكالة، أن الثوران استمر بعد الحدث الأولي، كما توقعت تساقط الرماد على أجزاء من المحافظة.
وأشارت إلى أنه لم ترد أنباء فورية عن وقوع إصابات أو خسائر مادية جراء ثوران البركان.
A volcano erupted in Sakurajima in Kagoshima Prefecture, southwestern Japan, early today (Sunday), according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, causing columns of ash and smoke to rise to an altitude of 4,400 meters in the atmosphere.
The agency reported that the eruption continued after the initial event, and it predicted ashfall in parts of the prefecture.
It noted that there were no immediate reports of injuries or material damage resulting from the volcanic eruption.
