أعلنت دار المزادات «سوذبيز» عن عرض مرحاض مصنوع بالكامل من الذهب الخالص في مزاد بنيويورك، وهو عمل فني يحمل عنوان «أمريكا» من صنع الفنان الإيطالي ماوريتسيو كاتيلان.
المنحوتة، التي تزن نحو 101 كيلوغرام من الذهب، ليست مجرد قطعة فنية فاخرة، بل صالحة للاستخدام فعلاً، ما يجعلها واحدة من أكثر الأعمال غرابة في عالم الفن الحديث، فيما تبدأ المزايدة عليه من نحو 10 ملايين دولار.
هذا المرحاض الذهبي هو نسخة طبق الأصل من العمل الذي تصدّر العناوين عام 2019 بعد سرقته من قصر بلينهايم في إنجلترا.
رئيس قسم الفن المعاصر في دار سوذبيز للمزادات في نيويورك ديفيد جالبرين، قال إن كاتيلان هو «المستفز المثالي لعالم الفن».

This golden toilet is a replica of the work that made headlines in 2019 after it was stolen from Blenheim Palace in England.
David Galperin, head of contemporary art at Sotheby's auction house in New York, said that Cattelan is "the perfect provocateur of the art world."
