ما بين دهاليز المحكمة العليا ومرافعات المحامين برزت السيدة الثانية في أمريكا أوشا فانس بصفتها لاعبة جديدة على الساحة الدبلوماسية الأمريكية، في ظل غياب السيدة الأولى ميلانيا ترمب عن المشهد السياسي. وبدأت فانس في سد الفراغ المتروك بقوة ناعمة عبر الدعم الشخصي لزوجها نائب الرئيس الأمريكي جيه دي فانس من خلال صقل خطاباته كخطابه بالمؤتمر الوطني الجمهوري، وإعداده للمناظرات الانتخابية.
ورغم افتقارها للخبرة السياسية المباشرة تُعتبر أوشا ركيزةً خفية في صعود زوجها، ويُوصف دورها الآن بـ«السلاح السري» لجي دي فانس، بفضل مهاراتها القانونية التي صقلتها خلال عملها محامية مع قضاة المحكمة العليا.
أوشا فانس
تعد أوشا البالغة من العمر 38 عاماً أول سيدة ثانية أمريكية هندية في البيت الأبيض، وأول سيدة ثانية تتبع الديانة الهندوسية. وفانس ابنة كريش ولاكشمي تشيلوكوري، اللذين ينحدران من ولاية أندرا براديش الهندية، واستقرا لاحقاً في كاليفورنيا، وهم جزء من مجتمع متماسك من الأكاديميين الهنود الأمريكيين في ضواحي سان دييغو.
وُلدت فانس في مقاطعة سان دييغو بكاليفورنيا، لوالدين مهاجرين من أصل تيلوغو هندي، ونشأت في بيئة من الطبقة المتوسطة العليا.
الدراسات العليا
حصلت فانس على درجة البكالوريوس في التاريخ من جامعة ييل، ثم على الدكتوراه في القانون من كلية ييل للحقوق.
وبعد التخرج عملت كاتبة قانونية لعدد من القضاة الفيدراليين، منهم رئيس المحكمة العليا جون روبرتس، والقاضي بريت كافانو، والقاضي أمول ثابار.
وفي2019 انضمت إلى نقابة محامي مقاطعة كولومبيا، وعملت في مكتب محاماة بارز متخصص في الدعاوى المدنية والاستئنافات، متناولة قضايا تتعلق بالتعليم العالي، والحكومة المحلية، والترفيه، والتكنولوجيا. وتركت العمل في مكتب المحاماة في يوليو 2024.
وخلال المؤتمر الوطني الجمهوري عام 2024، قدمت فانس خطاباً لتعريف الجمهور بزوجها جي دي فانس. كما دعمت حملته الانتخابية بشكل نشط.
وشغلت فانس في السابق منصباً في مجلس جمعية خريجي غيتس كامبريدغ، وعملت أمينة لمجلس أوركسترا سينفونية سينسيناتي.
وفي مؤتمر الحزب الجمهوري الوطني في يوليو 2024، ألقت فانس كلمة تقديمية لزوجها، ومنذ ذلك الحين أصبحت مستشارة لزوجها نائب الرئيس الأمريكي، وغالباً ما تسافر معه إلى الفعاليات الانتخابية، وأحياناً تظهر على المسرح معه.

تزوج جيه دي وأوشا في حفل مشترك بين الأديان في كنتاكي عام 2014، ولديهما 3 أطفال يعيشون في سينسيناتي.
ووفقاً للسجلات العامة صوتت تشيلوكوري في 2014 في الانتخابات التمهيدية للحزب الديموقراطي، إلا أن عام 2022 شهد تصويتها في الانتخابات التمهيدية الجمهورية التي كان زوجها مرشحاً فيها.
Between the corridors of the Supreme Court and the lawyers' arguments, the second lady of America, Usha Vance, emerged as a new player on the American diplomatic scene, in the absence of First Lady Melania Trump from the political landscape. Vance began to fill the void left by soft power through her personal support for her husband, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, by refining his speeches, such as his speech at the Republican National Convention, and preparing him for the electoral debates.
Despite her lack of direct political experience, Usha is considered a hidden pillar in her husband's rise, and her role is now described as the "secret weapon" for J.D. Vance, thanks to her legal skills honed during her time as a lawyer with Supreme Court justices.

At 38 years old, Usha is the first Indian-American second lady in the White House and the first second lady to follow the Hindu faith. Vance is the daughter of Krish and Lakshmi Chilukuri, who hail from the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh and later settled in California, and they are part of a tight-knit community of Indian American academics in the suburbs of San Diego.
Vance was born in San Diego County, California, to immigrant parents of Indian Telugu descent, and she grew up in an upper-middle-class environment.
Graduate Studies
Vance earned her bachelor's degree in history from Yale University, followed by a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School.
After graduating, she worked as a law clerk for several federal judges, including Chief Justice John Roberts, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, and Judge Amul Thapar.
In 2019, she joined the District of Columbia Bar and worked at a prominent law firm specializing in civil litigation and appeals, handling cases related to higher education, local government, entertainment, and technology. She left the law firm in July 2024.
During the 2024 Republican National Convention, Vance delivered a speech to introduce the public to her husband, J.D. Vance. She also actively supported his campaign.
Previously, Vance held a position on the board of the Gates Cambridge Alumni Association and served as a trustee for the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra.
At the Republican National Convention in July 2024, Vance gave an introductory speech for her husband, and since then, she has become an advisor to her husband, the U.S. Vice President, often traveling with him to campaign events and occasionally appearing on stage with him.
Meeting and Marriage
While studying at Yale Law School, Chilukuri met her future husband, J.D. Vance, and in 2013, Chilukuri and Vance collaborated to organize a discussion group at Yale focusing on "social decline in white America."
J.D. and Usha married in an interfaith ceremony in Kentucky in 2014, and they have three children living in Cincinnati.
According to public records, Chilukuri voted in the 2014 Democratic primary, but in 2022, she voted in the Republican primary in which her husband was a candidate.
