اعتقال فوري
سارعت الفتاة بالاتصال بالشرطة، التي هرعت إلى المنزل في جزيرة ستاتن. ولم يحتج المحققون وقتاً طويلاً لتحديد الجاني؛ إذ اعترف شقيقها (19 عاماً)، الذي عُثر عليه في المكان، وسط حالة انهيار نفسي واضحة.
مشكلات وإهمال
تحقيقات الشرطة كشفت أن الجاني كان يعاني اضطرابات عقلية منذ سنوات، دون تلقي علاج مناسب. وإن الضحية (45 عاماً) كان موظفاً في قسم النظافة العامة ويستعد للتقاعد بسبب ضعف بصره، ما جعله هدفاً سهلاً للهجوم.

With trembling steps, the girl followed the blood stains scattered throughout the house until she reached the bathroom, where she was confronted with an unbelievable scene: her mother’s friend’s body in the bathtub, beheaded, with the knife still embedded in the neck.

The girl hurried to call the police, who rushed to the house on Staten Island. The investigators did not take long to identify the perpetrator; her brother (19 years old), who was found at the scene, was in a clear state of psychological breakdown.
