من قلب أعماق منجم كارووي شمال شرق بوتسوانا، خرجت للعالم ماسة «موتسويدي» النادرة، التي يصل وزنها إلى 2,488 قيراطاً (ما يقارب نصف كيلوغرام)، لتُصبح ثاني أكبر ماسة مكتشفة في التاريخ. وبعد عام من اكتشافها، تقف هذه الجوهرة الأفريقية أمام مصير غير محسوم: هل ستُعرض في أحد المتاحف العالمية المرموقة، أم تنتهي ضمن مجموعة خاصة لأحد جامعي التحف الأثرياء؟

الماسة التي يعني اسمها «الأرض» بلغة التسوانا المحلية، جرى استخراجها في أغسطس 2024 باستخدام تقنية الأشعة السينية المتقدمة، التي ساعدت من قبل في العثور على ماسة «سيويلو» الشهيرة (1,758 قيراطاً) من نفس المنجم عام 2019.

مديرة الشؤون العامة في الشركة، مارغو دونكيير، أوضحت أن «سعر الماسة لا يمكن تحديده قبل انتهاء عملية التقييم»، مشيرة إلى أن قيمتها قد تصل إلى عشرات الملايين من الدولارات، تبعاً لجودتها وعدد الأحجار المستخرجة منها.

A Journey from the Mine to Antwerp
The diamond, whose name means "the earth" in the local Tswana language, was extracted in August 2024 using advanced X-ray technology, which had previously helped find the famous "Sewelo" diamond (1,758 carats) from the same mine in 2019.

Since then, "Motswedi" has moved to the Belgian city of Antwerp, the global diamond trading capital, where it is undergoing a meticulous evaluation by experts from HB Antwerp to determine its potential for polishing and dividing it into smaller stones.
Priceless Value
The company's Director of Public Affairs, Margot Donckier, explained that "the price of the diamond cannot be determined until the evaluation process is complete," noting that its value could reach tens of millions of dollars, depending on its quality and the number of stones extracted from it.
