من العلاج الطبي إلى الجراحة التجميلية
الجراحة التي كان هدفها الأساسي تصحيح الفوارق في طول الأطراف، تحولت إلى إجراء تجميلي متنامٍ في إسطنبول، حيث تعرض بعض المستشفيات حزمًا متكاملة تشمل الإقامة الفندقية والجولات السياحية وحتى الرحلات البحرية، في إطار ما يُعرف بـ«السياحة الطبية».
وتتم العملية عبر قطع عظم الفخذ أو الساق وإزالة جزء منه، ثم تثبيته بقضبان معدنية، مما يتيح تقصير الفخذ حتى 5.5 سم والساق حتى 3 سم.
مخاطر لا يُستهان بها
يحذر الأطباء من أن هذه الجراحة ليست بلا ثمن، إذ قد ينتج عنها:
- آلام مبرحة وفترة تعافٍ طويلة.
- تلف محتمل في الأعصاب وضعف في العضلات.
- فقدان بعض القدرات الحركية.
- خطر العدوى أو فشل العظام في الالتئام.
كما يُشترط أن يتراوح وزن المريض بين 70 و75 كيلوغراماً لتفادي كسر القضبان المعدنية المثبتة.
الحب دافع أساسي
أحد مستشفيات إسطنبول كشف إجراءه 10 عمليات لتقصير الساقين منذ عام 2023، مؤكداً أن معظم النساء اللواتي خضعن للعملية دفعتهن الرغبة في تعزيز فرص العثور على شريك مناسب، حيث يعتقدن أن طول القامة قد يشكّل عائقاً في العلاقات العاطفية.

From Medical Treatment to Cosmetic Surgery
The surgery, which was originally aimed at correcting discrepancies in limb length, has transformed into a growing cosmetic procedure in Istanbul, where some hospitals offer comprehensive packages that include hotel accommodation, sightseeing tours, and even cruises, as part of what is known as "medical tourism."
The procedure involves cutting the thigh or leg bone and removing a portion of it, then fixing it with metal rods, allowing for a shortening of the thigh by up to 5.5 cm and the leg by up to 3 cm.
Significant Risks
Doctors warn that this surgery is not without its costs, as it may result in:
- Excruciating pain and a long recovery period.
- Potential nerve damage and muscle weakness.
- Loss of some motor abilities.
- Risk of infection or failure of the bones to heal.
It is also required that the patient's weight be between 70 and 75 kilograms to avoid breaking the fixed metal rods.
Love as a Primary Motivation
One hospital in Istanbul revealed that it has performed 10 leg shortening surgeries since 2023, confirming that most of the women who underwent the procedure were motivated by the desire to enhance their chances of finding a suitable partner, as they believe that height can be a barrier in romantic relationships.
