The Egyptian Ministry of Interior revealed new details about what has been dubbed in the media as the "new black hole," which is an opening beneath the Arabi Bridge in the Agouza area of Giza Governorate, following the circulation of a video on social media that sparked widespread controversy.

The video included scenes of young men and women frequenting this opening, with claims that it has become a refuge for lawbreakers and a den for illegal activities such as organized begging.

According to an official statement from the Ministry of Interior, the Giza Security Directorate received a notification from the head of investigations at the Agouza police station, indicating that a post on "Facebook" was observed, supported by images and videos showing the mentioned opening.

Immediately, a security team was formed to target the site, resulting in the arrest of an unemployed man and his wife, both of whom have criminal records. It was found that the suspects had taken this opening as a base for organizing begging activities and soliciting passersby in the area. Upon confrontation, they admitted to their criminal activities, and legal action was taken against them, in coordination with the relevant authorities to permanently close the opening.

This is not the first time the phenomenon of the "black hole" has captured the attention of the Egyptian public; about 10 days ago, specifically on August 21, 2025, security agencies uncovered a similar opening beneath a bridge in the Pyramids area, which caused significant controversy after videos circulated showing gatherings of children, women, and young people in suspicious circumstances.

The security campaign targeting that opening resulted in the arrest of 20 individuals, including 7 known criminals, 8 women, and 5 children, who were being exploited in organized begging activities.

White weapons were found in the possession of some of the suspects, confirming the use of violence and intimidation against children to force them into begging. The opening was closed in coordination with the Giza Governorate, and the suspects were referred for investigation on charges including child exploitation and organizing begging activities.

The first case was triggered by one of the pages on social media, which provided video clips and accurate information to the security agencies, contributing to a swift response.

Investigations revealed a criminal network exploiting minors in illegal activities, which shocked public opinion and prompted the governorate to develop a comprehensive plan to improve infrastructure, pave tunnels, and illuminate them to prevent the recurrence of such phenomena.
