قضى أكثر من ألف شخص في انهيار أرضي دمر قرية في منطقة جبال مرة غربي السودان، ولم ينج منه سوى شخص واحد.
وقالت حركة «جيش تحرير السودان»، إن الانهيار الأرضي وقع الأحد إثر هطول أمطار غزيرة.
وناشدت الحركة، التي تسيطر على المنطقة الواقعة في إقليم دارفور، الأمم المتحدة ووكالات الإغاثة الدولية المساعدة في انتشال جثث الضحايا من رجال ونساء وأطفال.
وأضافت الحركة أن القرية «سويت بالأرض تماماً»، وفق ما نقلته وكالة «رويترز» للأنباء.
ولجأ السكان الذين فروا من الحرب بين الجيش السوداني و«قوات الدعم السريع» في ولاية شمال دارفور إلى منطقة جبال مرة حيث لا يتوفر الغذاء والدواء الكافي.
وقد تركت الحرب المستمرة منذ عامين أكثر من نصف السكان يواجهون أزمة جوع، ودفعت بالملايين إلى النزوح من منازلهم مع قصف الفاشر عاصمة ولاية شمال دارفور.
More than a thousand people died in a landslide that destroyed a village in the Jebel Marra region of western Sudan, with only one person surviving.
The Sudan Liberation Army stated that the landslide occurred on Sunday following heavy rainfall.
The movement, which controls the area in the Darfur region, appealed to the United Nations and international relief agencies for assistance in retrieving the bodies of the victims, including men, women, and children.
The movement added that the village was "completely leveled," according to reports from the Reuters news agency.
Residents who fled from the war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces in North Darfur have sought refuge in the Jebel Marra area, where food and medical supplies are scarce.
The ongoing war for the past two years has left more than half of the population facing a hunger crisis and has forced millions to flee their homes amid the bombing of El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.
