أعلن عرفان علي المدير العام للهيئة الإقليمية لإدارة الكوارث الباكستانية أن الفيضانات العارمة التي اجتاحت أجزاء من مقاطعة البنجاب شرق باكستان منذ بداية الأسبوع الحالي أسفرت عن مقتل 33 شخصا وتضرر أكثر من مليوني شخص.
وأضاف وفقا لوكالة الأنباء الباكستانية أن نحو نصف مليون شخص تم إجلاؤهم إلى مناطق آمنة مع استمرار الفيضانات الشديدة في غمر مساحات شاسعة من البنجاب، مشيرا إلى أن عمليات الإغاثة والإنقاذ لا تزال مستمرة.
وذكر أن أكثر من 800 قارب و1300 عنصر إنقاذ يشاركون في عمليات الإخلاء من المناطق المتضررة، التي تقع معظمها في المناطق الريفية القريبة من ضفاف الأنهار الرئيسة في البنجاب.
وكشف أن ثلاثة أنهار رئيسية في البنجاب تسجل مستويات خطيرة، مؤكدا إنشاء مخيمات إغاثة خاصة في أجزاء من المقاطعة لتقديم الغذاء والمأوى والخدمات الصحية الأساسية للمتضررين.
وبحسب الهيئة الوطنية لإدارة الكوارث، فإن الفيضانات والأمطار الغزيرة قد أسفرت منذ 26 يونيو الماضي عن مقتل 854 شخصا وإصابة 1130 آخرين في باكستان.
Irfan Ali, the Director General of the Pakistan Provincial Disaster Management Authority, announced that the severe floods that have swept parts of Punjab Province in eastern Pakistan since the beginning of this week have resulted in the deaths of 33 people and affected more than two million individuals.
He added, according to the Pakistan News Agency, that approximately half a million people have been evacuated to safe areas as the intense flooding continues to inundate vast areas of Punjab, noting that relief and rescue operations are still ongoing.
He mentioned that more than 800 boats and 1,300 rescue personnel are participating in the evacuation operations from the affected areas, most of which are located in rural regions near the banks of the main rivers in Punjab.
He revealed that three major rivers in Punjab are recording dangerous levels, confirming the establishment of special relief camps in parts of the province to provide food, shelter, and basic health services to those affected.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority, the floods and heavy rains have resulted in the deaths of 854 people and injuries to 1,130 others in Pakistan since June 26.
