بدأت القصة عندما نشرت الشابة روزي بوليك (ابنته) مقطع فيديو على تيك توك عن والدها الذي حصل أخيراً على شهادة الدكتوراه وكان يفكر في الخطوة التالية. وكتبت في وصف الفيديو: «هو يحب كتابة الرسائل أكثر مما يحب معظم الناس مراسلة أطفالهم»، وأشارت إلى أنه كان يرسل لها رسالة يومياً طوال سنوات الدراسة ومخيمات الصيف وحتى البلوغ.
وتتجاوز رسائل باز حدود العائلة، لتشمل أصدقاء وأقارب وغرباء طلبوا منه أن يكون لهم بمثابة الأب الذي لم يحظوا به، ما جعل قصته تلمس قلوب آلاف الأشخاص عبر وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي.
وقال باز: «من المجزي جداً أن أكون بمثابة الأب لأشخاص لا يملكون واحداً»، مؤكداً أن الكتابة بالنسبة له ليست مجرد كلمات، بل وسيلة لتقديم الدعم والحب لمن يحتاجه.

The story began when the young Rosie Polik (his daughter) posted a video on TikTok about her father, who recently earned his doctorate and was thinking about the next step. She wrote in the video description: "He loves writing letters more than most people love messaging their kids," and noted that he had been sending her a message every day throughout her school years, summer camps, and even into adulthood.
Baz's letters extend beyond family, including friends, relatives, and strangers who have asked him to be the father they never had, which has made his story touch the hearts of thousands of people across social media.
Baz said: "It is very rewarding to be a father figure to people who don’t have one," emphasizing that writing for him is not just about words, but a way to offer support and love to those in need.
