ارتفعت حالات الإصابة بفيروس كورونا المستجد (كوفيد-19) في الولايات المتحدة مع عودة الأطفال إلى المدارس واستعداد البلاد لدخول أشهر الطقس البارد، وبلغ معدل دخول المستشفيات بسبب كوفيد 1.7 لكل 100 ألف، وهو ضعف المعدل مقارنة بالشهرين الماضيين، وفقًا لبيانات مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها.
وبحسب موقع شبكة «إيه بي سي نيوز» الأمريكية فإنه خلال الأسبوع المنتهي جاءت 11.2% من الاختبارات الأسبوعية لكوفيد-19 إيجابية، ارتفاعًا من 3.3% في الشهرين السابقين، ورغم الزيادات، تظل المقاييس أقل بكثير مما كانت عليه في السنوات السابقة.
وأصبحت معدلات الاستشفاء أقل بنحو ثلاثة أضعاف مقارنة بنفس الفترة من العام الماضي، كما أن نسبة الاختبارات الأسبوعية التي تأتي بنتيجة إيجابية أقل بنحو مرتين مقارنة بنفس الفترة من العام الماضي.
على مدى الشهرين الماضيين، كان حوالى 200 أمريكي يموتون من كوفيد كل أسبوع، وفقًا لبيانات مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها.
ووافقت إدارة الغذاء والدواء الأمريكية على نسخ مُحدثة من لقاحات كورونا لمن تزيد أعمارهم عن 65 عامًا والأمريكيين الأصغر سنًا المعرضين لخطر الإصابة الشديدة بالمرض. وأصرّ مسؤولو الصحة الفيدراليون على أن أي شخص يرغب في تلقي اللقاح يمكنه الحصول عليه.
تظهر بيانات مراكز السيطرة على الأمراض والوقاية منها أن نسبة الإيجابية في الاختبار زادت إلى أكثر من 10% في معظم أنحاء جنوب غرب وغرب الولايات المتحدة مع توجه الأطفال إلى الفصول الدراسية.
