تحوّلت أجواء مصارعة الثيران في العاصمة البرتغالية لشبونة إلى مشهد مأساوي، بعدما لقي مصارع ثيران شاب مصرعه متأثراً بجروح خطيرة، فيما فارق أحد المتفرجين الحياة خلال اللحظات نفسها.
الضحية هو البرتغالي مانويل ماريا ترينداد (22 عاماً)، كان يخوض أول عروضه في حلبة كامبو بيكينو الشهيرة عندما باغته ثور ضخم يزن نحو 1,500 رطل. حاول ترينداد تنفيذ حركة «الوجه في مواجهة الثور» (pega de cara) عبر الإمساك بقرنيه والسيطرة عليه، لكن الحيوان الهائج رفعه بعنف وقذفه على جدار الحلبة أمام أنظار آلاف المشاهدين المذعورين.
ورغم التدخل السريع لزملائه وفرق الإسعاف، أصيب ترينداد بجروح بالغة في الرأس، ونقل إلى مستشفى ساو خوسيه حيث وُضع في غيبوبة اصطناعية، لكنه توفي نتيجة توقف قلبه.
المأساة لم تتوقف هنا، إذ أُعلنت وفاة أحد الحضور أيضا وهو جراح متقاعد يدعى فاسكو مورايش باتيستا (73 عاماً)، بعد إصابته بتمدد شرياني قاتل أثناء متابعته المشهد الصادم.
يذكر أن مصارعة الثيران في البرتغال تختلف عن نظيرتها الإسبانية، إذ يُحظر قتل الثور علناً منذ القرن التاسع عشر، فيما يواصل «الفوركادوس» تقليداً عائلياً طويلاً بالمخاطرة بحياتهم وجهاً لوجه مع الحيوانات.
The atmosphere of bullfighting in the Portuguese capital Lisbon turned into a tragic scene, after a young bullfighter lost his life due to serious injuries, while a spectator also passed away during the same moments.
The victim is the Portuguese Manuel Maria Trindade (22 years old), who was performing in his first show at the famous Campo Pequeno arena when he was suddenly attacked by a massive bull weighing about 1,500 pounds. Trindade attempted to execute the "face-to-face" move (pega de cara) by grabbing its horns and trying to control it, but the raging animal violently lifted him and threw him against the arena wall in front of thousands of terrified spectators.
Despite the quick intervention of his colleagues and ambulance teams, Trindade sustained severe head injuries and was taken to São José Hospital where he was placed in an artificial coma, but he died due to cardiac arrest.
The tragedy did not stop there, as the death of one of the attendees was also announced, a retired surgeon named Vasco Moraes Batista (73 years old), who suffered a fatal aneurysm while watching the shocking scene.
It is worth noting that bullfighting in Portugal differs from its Spanish counterpart, as killing the bull publicly has been prohibited since the 19th century, while the "forcados" continue a long family tradition of risking their lives face-to-face with the animals.
