لقي 5 أشخاص مصرعهم وأصيب آخرون في حادثة انقلاب حافلة ركاب على طريق سريع في شمال ولاية نيويورك الأمريكية.
وقال المتحدث باسم شرطة الولاية جيمس أوكالاهان، في تصريحات، إن حافلة سياحية تقل 51 شخصاً خرجت عن السيطرة وانقلبت على طريق سريع في شمال نيويورك، ما أسفر عن مقتل ما لا يقل عن 5 أشخاص وإصابة العشرات.
وأوضح أن معظم الركاب كانوا آسيويين أو من أصول آسيوية بينهم صينيون وهنود وفلبينيون، لافتاً إلى أن الحادثة وقعت على الطريق السريع رقم 90، وهو جزء من طريق نيويورك ثروي في بلدة بيمبروك الواقعة على بُعد نحو 48 كيلومتراً شرقي مدينة بوفالو بينما كانت الحافلة في طريقها من شلالات نياجرا إلى مدينة نيويورك.
وأضاف أوكالاهان أن العديد من الركاب حوصروا داخل الحطام واضطر رجال الإنقاذ إلى إخراجهم، بينما اندفع آخرون خارج الحافلة عندما انقلبت عبر الطريق السريع لتستقر بعد ذلك على جانبها في حفرة بجوار الطريق، مشيراً إلى نجاة السائق الذي فقد السيطرة على حافلته حينما كانت تسير «بأقصى سرعة» ما تسبب في اصطدامها بالجزيرة الوسطى ثم انقلابها.
من جهتها، ذكرت الوكالة الوطنية لسلامة النقل أنها أرسلت فريقاً للتحقيق في الحادثة، حيث يخضع سائق الحافلة للتحقيق.

Five people were killed and others were injured in a bus rollover accident on a highway in northern New York State, USA.
According to state police spokesperson James O'Callahan, a tour bus carrying 51 people lost control and overturned on a highway in northern New York, resulting in the deaths of at least 5 people and injuring dozens.
He explained that most of the passengers were Asian or of Asian descent, including Chinese, Indian, and Filipino individuals, noting that the incident occurred on Interstate 90, which is part of the New York Thruway in the town of Pembroke, located about 48 kilometers east of Buffalo, while the bus was en route from Niagara Falls to New York City.
O'Callahan added that many passengers were trapped inside the wreckage, and rescuers had to extricate them, while others were thrown from the bus when it overturned across the highway, eventually coming to rest on its side in a ditch beside the road. He pointed out that the driver survived, having lost control of the bus while it was traveling "at maximum speed," which caused it to collide with the median and then overturn.
For its part, the National Transportation Safety Board reported that it has sent a team to investigate the incident, and the bus driver is under investigation.
Additionally, New York Governor Kathy Hochul wrote on her X platform account, "The police have confirmed the tragic loss of 5 lives," adding that the incident led to the closure of the highway in both directions, causing massive traffic congestion.
