ألقت الشرطة النيوزيلندية القبض على امرأة أمس (الأحد)، بعد العثور على طفلة تبلغ من العمر عامين على قيد الحياة داخل حقيبة سفر موضوعة في صندوق الأمتعة بحافلة ركاب تابعة لشركة InterCity، أثناء توقفها في بلدة كايوكا شمال مدينة أوكلاند.
لاحظ سائق الحافلة حركة غير معتادة داخل إحدى الحقائب خلال توقف مخطط له، بعد أن طلب أحد الركاب الوصول إلى الأمتعة. وعند فتح الحقيبة، فوجئ السائق بوجود الطفلة التي كانت شديدة السخونة لكنها بدت سليمة جسدياً، وتم نقلها فوراً إلى المستشفى، حيث بقيت تحت الرعاية الطبية.
وتم توجيه تهمة إهمال أو إساءة معاملة طفل للمرأة المشتبه بها، ومن المقرر مثولها أمام المحكمة. ولم تكشف الشرطة هويتها أو المدة التي قضتها الطفلة داخل الحقيبة، كما لم يُعلن عن خط سير الحافلة.
وأكدت شركة InterCity في بيان لوسائل الإعلام، أن الحافلة تتبع لها، مشيرة إلى أن الأطفال دون سن الثالثة يمكنهم السفر مجاناً على حضن شخص بالغ.
وأثارت الحادثة صدمة كبيرة، وسط دعوات لتحقيق موسع لكشف ملابسات الواقعة ودوافع المتهمة.
The New Zealand police arrested a woman yesterday (Sunday) after finding a two-year-old girl alive inside a suitcase placed in the luggage compartment of an InterCity passenger bus, during a stop in the town of Kaiwaka, north of Auckland.
The bus driver noticed unusual movement inside one of the bags during a scheduled stop, after a passenger requested access to the luggage. Upon opening the suitcase, the driver was surprised to find the girl, who was extremely hot but appeared physically unharmed, and she was immediately taken to the hospital, where she remained under medical care.
The woman suspected has been charged with child neglect or abuse, and she is scheduled to appear in court. The police have not revealed her identity or how long the girl spent inside the suitcase, nor has the bus route been announced.
InterCity confirmed in a statement to the media that the bus belongs to them, noting that children under the age of three can travel for free on the lap of an adult.
The incident has caused significant shock, amid calls for a thorough investigation to uncover the circumstances of the incident and the motives of the accused.
