شهدت منطقة سويت أوبورن الحيوية في مدينة أتلانتا، عاصمة ولاية جورجيا الأمريكية، حادثة تبادل إطلاق نار مروعة أسفرت عن مقتل شخص وإصابة 10 آخرين، من بينهم شاب يبلغ من العمر 18 عاما في حالة حرجة، في الحادثة التي وقعت في منطقة معروفة بحياتها الليلية النابضة، ما زاد من حالة الذعر بين السكان والزوار.
ووفقا لشرطة أتلانتا، تلقت السلطات بلاغا حول إطلاق نار متعدد الضحايا حوالى الساعة 1:30 صباحا، حيث هرعت الشرطة إلى مكان الحادث لتجد 11 شخصا قد أصيبوا برصاص، أحدهم فارق الحياة في مكان الحادثة، وحدد مكتب الفحص الطبي في مقاطعة فولتون هوية الضحية المتوفاة بأنها سانتوس جيه. وايت، ويبلغ من العمر 27 عاما.
وعملت السلطات على نقل المصابين العشرة الآخرين، سبعة ذكور وثلاث إناث، إلى المستشفى لتلقي العلاج، وأوضح رئيس شرطة أتلانتا، دارين شيربوم، في مؤتمر صحفي صباح الإثنين، أن الشرطة تبحث عن أربعة مشتبه بهم - ثلاثة ذكور وأنثى - يُعتقد أنهم اقتربوا من مجموعة أشخاص بالقرب من محطة ترام في إيدجوود أفينيو وبدأوا تبادل إطلاق النار.
وعثرت الشرطة على أسلحة نارية و34 طلقة فارغة في موقع الحادثة، وتعمل الشرطة مع مختبر البالستية التابع لها ومكتب الكحول والتبغ والأسلحة النارية والمتفجرات لتحليل الأدلة، وأشار شيربوم إلى أن الشرطة تتوقع نشر تسجيلات فيديو قريبا للمساعدة في التحقيق، وأكدت الشرطة أن الحادثة ليست لها صلة ظاهرة بالعصابات، ويُعتقد أن غالبية الضحايا كانوا من المارة الأبرياء.
وتأتي هذه الحادثة في أعقاب عطلة أسبوع عنيفة في أتلانتا، شهدت 12 حادثة عنف أسفرت عن إصابة 29 شخصا ومقتل اثنين آخرين، بعضها مرتبط بقضايا مثل ربط السيارات أو العنف المنزلي.

According to the Atlanta police, authorities received reports of a multiple-victim shooting around 1:30 AM, prompting police to rush to the scene where they found 11 individuals had been shot, one of whom died at the scene. The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the deceased victim as Santos J. White, aged 27.
The authorities worked to transport the other ten injured individuals, seven males and three females, to the hospital for treatment. Atlanta Police Chief Darren Shearbaum stated at a press conference on Monday morning that police are searching for four suspects - three males and one female - believed to have approached a group of people near a tram station on Edgewood Avenue and began exchanging gunfire.
Police found firearms and 34 shell casings at the scene, and they are working with their ballistic lab and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to analyze the evidence. Shearbaum noted that police expect to release video footage soon to assist in the investigation and confirmed that the incident does not appear to be gang-related, with the majority of victims believed to be innocent bystanders.
